Wiki project back on track! https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=5390.msg54297#msg54297
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:32:18 pm »
I've been really busy with real life stuff and also some server performance issues caused by our wiki. Good news is that I'm pretty sure I have fixed the problem and I can once again start building the wiki.

Tomorrow I'll try to work about 6 hours on wiki and hopefully I'll get a lot done at that time.

To-do-list is definitely the most important thing right now because I have a lot of people wanting to help but don't know what to do. :)

Anyways just wanted to let you know in case you were wondering what is going on with the project.

The new wiki looks good.
When will the link to that wiki replace the one on element's home page?

Yep this is the plan. I'll talk to Zanz about changing the link once we have all the core information on the wiki and everything is running smoothly.

When do you estimate that will be?

Couple of weeks probably.

Anything I should do in the old wiki right now? I keep getting messages on my talk page from people who want to improve the old wiki, and I have to tell them every time that we're currently working on a new wiki and the old wiki is going to be discarded soon. But if I just put a big sign on the front page of the old wiki saying "This Wiki is going to be replaced soon", then Wikia might get angry and revert my edit, because it doesn't want any of its wikis to die.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

My tip is: just ignore it and work on the new one. No need to put up any new signs just yet.

Btw you said you were going to do the Water cards, yes?

This reminds me. I think I read somewhere that all contributors except for appointed ones must have their edits approved by an editor. Is there a way to sign up to be an editor or something? What will be the system when the wiki is released fully?

Members who help with the Wiki the most, get promoted to Editors.

We are most likely sticking to this system when we go live.

To clarify.. this approval process is very simple and it's there only to get rid of spam and make things more smooth. Editors don't reject your posts just because they don't like them.

Do you have to register to edit?
Can anybody register?
I'm really sorry to bother you with these questions, I'm just very curious and I'm still new to this wiki process.

I will do it today. Didn't really have much time lately, but plenty of time today. Don't worry, I'll get it done.

But I think it's a bit rude to just ignore the messages. I'm the admin in that wiki now, and I shouldn't ignore them.
