This sounds prohibitively expensive. The linked chat already went down b/c of expense; can it be affirmed that this won't go the same way?
With the chat the problem was that because we used a public chat, there was no way of controlling the chat usage. This meant that tons of guests and bots stormed the chat which used huge amounts of CPU.
With Elements Radio we can control the number of user slots. For example we can start with only 25 slots. Then if more people want to use it, we gradually increase the size.
I'm still thinking about upgrading my hosting plan. Right now it's 90% sure that I will upgrade it this week. With the better hosting plan I'm pretty sure we could run the radio as well, although I'm not 100% sure about that because I don't really know how much CPU it uses. We need to test it to find out.
If my hosting plan fails, there are other options as well. Web is full on Shoutcast hosting providers who have relatively cheap hosting as long as we don't demand CD sound quality.
Difficult to say at this point how this all will play out but the Elements Radio will be launched in some shape or form.
