This sudden death thing... If you feel unconvenient or have a bit bad position, or even better, if you have seen your opponent's king deck already and you feel that your king could counter it, then just sit there, relax and wait when your playing time is over...Then comes sudden death and you have a second chance! Obviously this is plain stupid, but I can't suggest anything better now.

I believe it is still better than a coin toss deciding the winner. And well.. it happens only if you can't finish the chess game by the deadline. It can easily be avoided by being a little bit more active. And if your opponent is obviously avoiding contact or not moving on purpose till Sudden Death, you can claim the win.
