Could you please post the brackets, or at least the Round 1 Matches? I want to see who I'll be against, and I also want to be able to organize a time to play the match before the round starts.
Somehow still around, somewhat

serious suggestions:

1.  Regular board with all the pieces.  The queen's deck can be any elements, and number of cards you want (this is for a closer likeness to chess).

2.  1 hourglass in the middle or 3 spread evenly across the center of the board like this: H S S H S S H (H=hourglass, S=empty space).  There are still duels (best of 3) and all the other rules about attacking other pieces.

3.  Promoted pawns still keep their decks and can choose any 3 cards to upgrade. (I know this changes nothing...  just wanted to make it clear that this isn't changed).

4.  Attacking pieces can use 1 upgraded card in that piece's deck.  (This somewhat compensates for the unsure victory of killing the piece that you are attacking).

In my opinion, this would make the event a little bit more fun and related to actual chess... which would make it more fun, also).

I hope the suggestions help :D

since 8 ppl have'nt sent they're deck yet, to avoid a mess of this event,  I Highly suggest to redo the brackets for those that would have got a bye in rd 1 to avoid giving 5-6 freepasses to round 2.   Of course in case of uneven missing decks at least 1 person will get a bye in rd 1. Otherwise we might face somthing as stupid as someone going to semis with 2 byes in a row ::)
Of course all I said is void if ppl do in fact send they're decks!

From a spectators point of view this looks really interesting and it is pretty fun to watch the "games" play out.

I think I already mentioned this to Shantu but I think the boards that are embedded would work better if they showed the current situation by default and not the starting position.

Right now if there have been 10+ moves already, I have to click the forward button that 10+ times to see what the current situation is. It would be much more logical to show the current situation by default and have forward button as a kind of "history" button if you want to see what happened before.

Not a big deal of course but I think it would be an improvement.

We've been tossing around ideas for an improved version in Chat.

Here's my idea, based on chess boxing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_boxing).

Basically, there are two battles going on: a chess match and an Elements duel. Players play x moves or of chess, then fight in a single Elements duel (1 game). They then play another x moves, then another duel, and so on.

The winner is the first person to either achieve a checkmate or win y times in Elements. That person progresses to the next round.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
