Chatmods off the road?

One time I asked Higurashi if chatmods could also be kicked and banned, including self.
Now that she's not in charge and we have more open mods, I'm asking again if this could be implemented. On days when we have our rl responsibilities, it would be nice to stop the temptation to join. Furthermore when a chatmod is lagging while being afk - leaving left-joined messages for pages long - it would also be nice to stop the unintentional spam.

I don't understand the concept of staying AFK and in chat. If you know you're prone to lagging and you're going afk...

Just leave.

And for those who like the perks of an open chat window (such as ease of access to chat history), being a chatmod allows you to go invis when you're afk, which is just as good for everyone else if you don't want to give them all join/leave spam

Going invisible also hides excessive join/leave messages, as elk pointed out.

One problem is that the one who lags doesn't know that he lags, so why would he go invisible? Especially if AFK.

The second problem that going invisible doesn't solve the other problem for people with lack of self control. And I just want to shut down all "it all has to be decided inside your mind" replies in anticipation. OCD and other mental issues are not things people can easily shut down.

First problem can be resolved by a fellow mod telling that mod he excessively AFKs. Talking is a powerful skill.

Second problem: You can still go invisible and swap back and forth between chat windows - I've done it often myself. Your remarks sound like this is more a discussion about OCD than chat. If one's OCD is that bad, they need outside help, not chat mod accommodation.

It's just my reasoning for the change i'm trying to make. It's ergonomy; how the newsletter has thinner columns for those who have smaller screens, and how some online pages have symbols and markers for colorblind people. There's nothing bad in following the DfA (Design for All).
