it would be nice if the person doing the banning in chat would give a reason for it and the duration, its rather annoying to be chatting with someone about something completely benign and then have the chat freeze, expect to refresh and carry on the discussion, and then see youve been banned for an unknown period of time.

The way they do it in Transformice is pretty nice. They do it with [Moderation] So-and-so has been banned for [length] hours. Reason: [insert reason].
And if it's you who have been banned, it takes you to a new screen saying how long and why you have been banned, so you know exactly when you have been banned.

I fully support this.

People should know why they got banned, no matter how obvious (or not obvious) the reason.

I don't see why this isn't existent. I also think it should also make a little message in the chat saying, for example "Spiral0527 has been banned." I think this would explain sudden disconnection with the chatter.

We don't have this because it's not part of the software. If we wanted this, someone would have to do custom coding.

I personally put things like this at the very bottom of my to-do-list. I think that we have a million better things to do than the improve the communication between moderators and people who like to break chat rules. Lets not forget that this reason for a ban and its duration would only benefit maybe less than 1% of chat users, because that other 99%+ never gets banned.

An easy fix to this problem is not to break any chat rules. Sure, it might annoy you not to know how long of a ban you got, but why didn't you break the rules in the first place?

If it isn't part of the software, couldn't the moderator that banned the user send a forum PM to them with the reason and duration? The mod might not always know their forum name, but a lot of users have the same forum and chat name. Just because someone broke a rule doesn't mean they should be denied basic kindness that only takes half a minute out of a moderator's time.
Somehow still around, somewhat
