Ban bots in the main chat

Aside from our lovely Potato, could we have a rule against using scripts, bots or whatever (not an IRC expert here) in the main chat room? Their triggers tend to be either annoyingly general, or people intentionally trigger them this spamming chat not only with what they're saying but also with what the bot's saying. For that matter whatever the bit says tends to be useless regardless, and again does nothing but spam chat a little bit.

If you're not saying something yourself, what's the point of saying it at all?

I'd suggest some sort of 'time-limit' filter that prevents a bot or script (excluding AveragePotato) from sending a message for e.g. every 5 minutes.

Scripting is nice and all but the real issue is how quickly the scripts can lead to spam.

The problem generally isn't the bots, the problem is people abusing the bots. Having said that, some sort of common sense should be used in what should be an acceptable script and what is not.

Example, welcoming scripts. Vrt and Pepokish have a script such that whenever someone says /me Waves, they both /me Waves back frantically! ..That's not annoying. That's adorable. As long as no one abuses it, which I've yet to see.

As a laughing material, this is good, but as an actual chat, this is quickly annoying.
+1, though we need more "productive" bots like flood protection or deck autoparser.

Maybe a slightly less blanketing rule that says that personal (as in non-admin-approved) bots must not be designed to respond to messages publicly, all bots must not post more than 6 messages per minute, and bots not approved must not post more than 1 message per minute.

Oh, and if there's a script that chokes off offending scripts, it should choke off anyone that had a major part in inducing it to do so, too.

This and other "annoying as crap" banter is one reason I stay away from main chat unless I'm looking for someone in specific...

I would so love to sit in chat and help new players with their questions as they often get neglected but I personally cannot stand to be there most of the time...  and over half of the regular abusers are blocked on my IRC client anyways.
