The Fire lances are to be used either as creature control, or as a finishing touch. I would say try it out, I find it working pretty good.

you have to switch the brimstone eaters for pillars and mark of  for flying weapons.

I like the idea but I'd go

3 Fire Bolts
6 Flying Weapons

Go six its hard to get more than two with even six with five you have problems.  Also with six you can allow a rewind.
