Maybe a 'better' idea for spells used on scarabs is Acceleration or Overdrive...?  Gravity goes with the devour skill (of the non-accel'd scarabs for CC against opponent) and as long as you add one scarab every turn the accel/OD won't kill its target - only increase the ATK.

What about something like this?

No, it doesn't fit the original post anymore, but yes it is still un-upped (granted a few more rares have appeared) but it retains the idea of using scarabs as having built-in "+1 purify if you generate a scarab every turn" this time with Acceleration building attack without truly decreasing HP.  I tried it out un-upped vs AI3 and it was OK but I'm not sure it has any real promise beyond being new and/or fun.

Back to your original idea; Ive always wanted to combine chimera and liquid shadow, however I think all it does is giving you occasional EMs while taking up space otherwise.
