I played this deck in a few PVP games and a few Champion's League games, and it does very very very well against creature rushes, even if they pack some permanent control (shields are optional).  The basic defense is a Quinted Octopus, the basic offense is a Fractaled Dragon.  It's pretty much a creature-halter with some strong backup.  Just beware Fire Shields and Thorn Carapaces. :)

One of the elders has a deck similar to this, but they don't use it very well.

True, the Elder deck doens't know how to save it's Quints for it's Squids and it's Fractals for it's Dragons -- it frequently does just the opposite, which is less effective and sometimes downright silly.
