This is a great idea.

A few things:
Yeah please no shards, SoG is way to powerful, especially only if one team can use it. Nova and Immo should both be banned, because they can also heavily tip the scales for one group or another. Or you could limit them and make the group who picks them have to skip their next draft pick or two, or make them available to all.

Maybe either limit total number of upgrades or just not have them involved at all. It needs to be one or the other, because some cards lose a lot of value drafting if they stay un-upped or would simply change when they were being drafted.

I feel like everyone has all towers, and drafting pendulums would work.

No trading for at least the first three rounds. I originally thought no immediately towards trading, but you'll have a rather limited amount of decks when drafting if you don't.

Final idea. Maybe present to people what cards are left at their turn for drafting and just have people PM their picks, so at least the first round is secretive and exciting and would limit hate drafting.

Best record = most wins.  If there is a tie there will be a one round playoff.

For Draft #1 there will be no upgrades or trading, seeing how things go maybe we'll try otherwise next time.

Secretive drafting?  I don't get it, wouldn't it be more fun knowing?

On the subject of upped cards, I say no... it really just complicates stuff. And besides, no upped cards means no shards, and that saves you a rule right there...

    You may sign up as either a Captain or a Player.
    Signups are coming soon.
Captains
    One captain per team.
    Responsible for drafting their teams.
    Once teams are drafted captains become players.
    Required to have a good knowledge of the playerbase.
    Will be chosen by plastiqe.
from the wording, i think theres a slight confusion about how a captain is chosen
either one can sign up as a captain OR you, the host will pick one from the available pool of players
the way i see it is that either one can sign up as a captain or everyone sign up and you randomly assign someone(s) as captain(s)
i prefer the latter

You can respond to sign ups as "yes I'd like to be a captain" or "I'd just like to be a player".  I'm guessing there will be more than enough potential captains.   I figured there should be an opt in cause I don't wanna just do it randomly in case someone doesn't want the responsibilty of picking a team.

Hmm, I smell possible abuse here, if I understand this correctly. If a team thinks they are heavy underdogs with their drafted cards against their current matchup, the best play for them would be to just go afk and not play a single game (and then try to fetch wins against the other teams). This would give the opponent team zero wins, despite their good drafting... Even worse, when more than one team thinks this way, the best card pool can actually end up last.
It might be smarter to have a fixed amount of matches that have to be completed for each round.

Well there is that ^.  I could add each player must fight at least one match per round so a min 7 matches.  I'd really rather not get into player vs player matchups, scheduling conflicts, penalties for no shows and the like.

If you think of the glass as half full, not playing your matches because you might lose is like denying yourself potential wins.  Perhaps there needs to be a point system after all, like 3 points for a win and 1 point for a loss, just to encourage as many games as possible.

I'd prefer brackets, but I understand if you don't want to mess with all of that. Point system and applying a minimum matches clause would help too, maybe even a maximum as well? Just in case one person in a group does some insane amount of matches. Nothing too limiting, like 15 matches (per player) a week?

Well, the difference to leagues is that in the leagues everyone is on even ground, so there's no real reason to avoid a specific player. In The Draft however you can estimate your win chance much better.
A compromise could be to not have specific PlayerX vs PlayerY brackets, but instead say "each round, exactly 9 (arbitrarily chosen number) matches must be played", without specifying who plays. With this system you would still have the advantages of flexible match-scheduling while closing all the loopholes. Specifically I also feel there shouldn't be an unlimited amount of games a team can play, as winner should be decided by good drafting and deckbuilding and not by who grinds most.
