This seems to have been a successful event. Sorry I missed it.

We definitely need more drafting events, which is why I posted a second idea, and encourage others to do the same.

As for this event, one of the main problems seemed to have been the fact that drafting took a long time. You should probably try to come up with ways to shorten that time.

One option is just start battles mid-way of the drafting, then run duels and drafting at the same time. As the event progresses, teams pick more cards and get more options.

I'm not a big fan of the rule where teams who fail to pick their card, can just show up later and make their picks then. I think it's a much better rule to let the next team make that pick for them. This way teams that fail will get a bigger "penalty", which encourages picking cards on time.

I recommend you start using card images instead of text. I made a list of all the card images that you can use. having visuals, makes the event more "realistic" I think.

Also this event probably needs a clear winner so that we can give an award icon. Otherwise it kind of sucks for the participants.

I had other feedback as well, but I forgot what it was. :)

One of the issues I had with the Draft was the fact that there was a great deal of time spent on the drafting of the actual players, and it turned out that a good number either dropped out or were grossly inactive which resulted in replacements being named.  Now, this normally wouldn't have any problem, but when there is a great deal of thought given to drafting players (I know for a fact that TNG drafted his team out of who was being active in BL, and as a result we were the only team to not incur any activity penalty for the entire event).  Meanwhile, many teams replaced inactive players with members such as jmdt, Napalm, RavingRabbid, etc.  Now, I have no problem with inactive players being replaced, but I did feel somewhat miffed that there was no sort of penalty for the replacements when we took great pains to remain active throughout.  I know that it is really of no use to highlight a problem without offering a solution, but I cannot think of anything that would fit offhand.

That being said, I loved being a part of this event and would not only do it again, but am also more than willing to give whatever assistance that may be necessary to ensure that it happens again.

The only real punishment that I can see is making one of their cards available to everyone everytime they have to replace a member.

Notes on the motivation for some of the changes planned for Draft II:

Organizing a day to do all the drafting at once won't happen on my end, but that doesn't mean that the captains can't get together and do some speed drafting themselves.  Last time I was often told that teams were waiting for one or more of their members to log on before they made their pick, hopefully with the addition of secret forums this time around they'll be able to better organize.  An 8 hour limit rather than 24 hours may seem harsh, but I have no interest in spending two weeks on the card drafting like we did last time so hopefully a much shorter time limit will also help there.

The trading is something I wanted to do before but didn't fit into the first Draft.  It will add subtle layers of strategy in finding a good deal for your team, maybe giving a lobsided trade to a lower ranked team in order to give them a fighting chance against their opponents and also addresses the concerns about perm control and such.  I read through all the trade related feedback from the Booster Draft, but I think it'll be ok if people are aiming for power cards just cause they might be good trade bait.  If that is the strategy you want to follow.. by all means.

The change from league style randoms to scheduled player vs player matches should help a lot.  The current setup only has players meeting up against about two opponents a week so it should be fairly easy to fit in.  I also really like the addition of a randomized final round where matches are worth 2 points each cause it should leave the finale up in the air as opposed to the first time around where it was all but decided except for the top teams.

I put a -2 point penalty for using a replacement - they can still earn back the points by winning their games but maybe I'll reduce it to a -1, not sure there.

Oh and there is a rule on giving out award icons, limited to 1 icon per event.  I'd prefer to keep this a team based event so I guess you'll just have to settle for your name being hand inscribed on the Kravian Cup in the Drafting Hall of Fame for all eternity.

The winning captain could/should get an icon maybe, I agree that its a tad bitter for the rest of the team, but if I was on a winning team, I'd prefer my captain to atleast get something flashy for his efforts and leading with success. Tho the names on the kravians should still be as it is tho.

im not liking this snake format for picking, it gives 2 teams an advantage over others.  why wasnt a rotational way used instead, allowing each team to pick first, rotating down the list for each round?

A rotational way would give teams 6,5, and 4 a huge disadvantage and the top teams a much bigger advantage. Why do you think the majority of fantasy drafts are snake formats? It's basically because it's one of the fairer ways to do it. If we REALLY wanted to make this fair we could do this auction style with everyone a set bank account. Course that would likely take forever BUT we could probably make a chat room at an appointed time and have members duke it out.

I definitely agree with the snake format, but what bucky is saying has some truth. It lets some teams draft a combo of two cards (there aren't really combos of the same magnitude in sports). Nonetheless, even as a member of Bucky's team, I much prefer the snake order, for the reasons blonde stated.
