The Draft

Players may sign up, or sign up as potential Captains.  I'd pick Captains based on applications.  Captains get to draft their teams from the player pool, ie

"in the first round red team picks".
Teams then take turns drafting cards, ie "in the first round blue team picks Graboid".
Once a card is drafted other teams can't use it to build their decks.  Drafting goes for 15ish rounds, remaining cards are freebies and can be used by anybody.Teams then face eachother in a round robin tournament (each team plays each other team in turn) using only cards they've drafted and freebies to build decks.[/list]Those are just the coles notes but I've put a bit of thought into this and I'm quite certain it'd be a lot of fun.  I'd like to run the event, perhaps after the war or when I've got more free time.

I'd say you should pick the captains randomly.

Id rather pick them based on applications as plastiqe said, to be honest, but how many teams would there be? and it would be teams of how many people?

I F***ing love drafting.  Came in 4th of 14 yesterday.

Do you want to do this like a traditional "pack" draft?  Rules would work like this:
If there are X players, then 3X "packs" of 15 random non-pillar cards.  Each player opens their "pack", picks one card, and then PMs the new list of 14 cards to the next player.  This continues until the entire pack is empty, when the next pack is "opened", and passed around again, this time in reverse order.  When the entire process is finished, (passing "right", then "left", then "right" again), each player has 45 non-pillar cards.  They may take an unlimited number of pillars or pendulums.  Then, a swiss tournament happens.

Booster drafting is a neat idea but that's not what I've got planned, at least for the first go.

The captains are just there to pick the teams, the only thing you really need is a knowledge of the playerbase. 

There'd be 6 teams of 5 players each (including the captains) so 30 players total.*

I'm thinking signups will begin on Jan 1st 2011.**

Team red drafts: Elite Charger, team blue drafts: Gravity pillar, team beige drafts: Gravity pendulum, ...
