My opponent, tdog0001, has not posted a dog and did not respond to either of my two PMs. I'm going to claim a win here.
Will I gain experience for this match, even though we were unable to play?
You should gain exp in the form of relics, IIRC.
You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

I'm posting a 0-0 win.  When whitevo didn't respond to my PM I hunted him down in chat.  We set a time for yesterday and when he missed it I PM'd him.  This morning I got the following PM:

sry about that, had some issues.
Maybe its possible to get our match today later when i get online. Not home atm.
He logged on today while I was in chat but I didn't hear from him.

Please let me know when/where I should learn new abilities, salvage, etc.

Scruffy (1world24) hasnt replied to any of my pm's and hasent sent any either. As of such our match up hasnt been completed. And unless he contacts me soon we wont get it done. I believe that i have put in the effort to contact him, but i will leave it in your hands to decide DevilLoss. By the way i forgot to save my pms because i didnt think this would be a problem so i dont think i will be able to provide you with sufficent evidence to prove that i tried to make contact. Sorry if this makes your job difficult.

Efforts to contact a player to set up a time can only be verified by showing me copies of PMs or chat transcripts, or if your opponent agrees to concede defeat.  Without any of these all unplayed matches result in a 0-0 draw with no XP gained or lost, and no damage inflicted or received.

You claim it like its entirely my fault. Its much as your fault as mine.
The time when u caught me in chat we could have played our games, but you didnt want because you wanted go sleep or something (i wonder can i see it from chat history, because dont rly rememb your reason). Should have played right at that moment.

Then you couldnt play in Sunday, you had good reason so im ok with it.

Then we settled it up for Monday. I told that, i should be able to come because i dont have school, but i was wrong, i wasnt able to come. Friends suprised me and entire day i was unable to contact you.
'Then the following day > tuesday, i gained access to computere for short while. That's when i sended PM to you.
But due to few reasons i still couldnt go home, so thats why i couldnt get online to play with you.

So plx dont blame me entirely for this.

Im ok you takeing the exp, i just hope i dont get event's ban.

Had an unexpected weekend, i hope you will understand.

Finals results for all matches, both played and unplayed, as listed in this thread (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,25890.0.html).  This includes all XP gained and damage taken, if applicable.  Please review it and post any questions there you might have.
Carpe Diem!!

No, no hard feelings and I'm sure the organizers won't boot you from the Event for one absence.  We're all human and sometimes things come up.  No hard feelings at all.

But TStar, he did miss the match.  It was difficult for us to find a time that worked for us both, eight timezones away.  What more can I do than be present for the match we scheduled and then be online whenever possible after that time passes?  If one player admits to missing the scheduled match time it should be treated as a surrender in the rules.  And the original rules say "the one who was clearly more active in finding a time for the match gets the win."

I'm really uncomfortable with a half-win.  I built my dog to be dependent on early wins, and looking at stats and vaults I believe I was well over 50% to win.  I'm also uncomfortable with organizers viewing the round's results and then changing the rules for that round.  If you feel you absolutely need to change the rules mid-event, please wait until next round.

This is a really big ruling in the scope of this Event.  Several dogs have 2 intelligence, meaning it'd take them at least two wins and probably more to net the 8 cards I'm losing here.

Put another way: we're telling players it's not enough to schedule a time and then be present for it.  That can't be right.

I have to agree with kevkev here. In an egoistic thought, I'd prefer him to get half a win - he really WILL pwn us all if he can build up for one round or two - but he deserves a full win out of this.

I recognize your frustration, but first-run events sometimes run into unplanned situations which require quick action to make sure the event runs smoothly and fairly for all participants.  I identified a potential problem with the amount of unplayed matches looming and devised a solution to account for it.  The half-win was used because it helps eliminate the early RNG factor of some players getting paired for "free" wins against inactive players while not overly punishing them for a situation beyond their control.  The same with awarding a half-win for a bye, since it doesn't punish a player for getting RNG'd into having no match but doesn't award them a full win in a no-risk situation.  This seemed like a very reasonable solution since the event pairings are done using the Swiss system so a dogs in similar situations would be paired off eliminating any type of advantage or disadvantage.  Furthermore, it solved the problem of trying to determine who wins if two players are equally active but unable to play due to time zone differences as you mentioned.  Is it fair to everyone that both players be given a win in that situation despite not playing?  Is it fair to the players to get no credit at all despite honest efforts to play?  This was the best solution in my opinion, and it was enacted before the end of Round 1 to ensure that the same rule set would be utilized throughout all the rounds.

Feel free to suggest alternatives to this solution in the Feedback thread, as further discussion on this issue would best be done there and not in the Battle thread.

Carpe Diem!!
