The original idea was to have a permanent focused element.

Based on the ideas of the factions I see the following abilities:

Transmute : - Gaian - Turns target permanent into a creature, or target creature into a permanent. Specifics such as retaining old identity or turning into a new card entirely depend on the card that is doing the transmuting.

Reinforce : - Cthonic- Is this card is discarded or destroyed, generate [benefit]/[effect] (like generate X quanta or a random ally creature gets +X/+X). Alternatively, if this card is discard/destroyed generate a "Salvage Ward" permanent.

so to go over the mechanics of both factions:

Gaian:
 :life :light :air

evolutionary stages: cards that become other cards, like graboid or fate egg, but in multiple cycles, involving several kinds of elements, this is inline with zblader's transmute idea, which I fully support

biogenesis: biological based cards, such as cards that adjust and alter a cards stats, or add a specific skill/ability, similar to the fallen elf/druid.

Tree people: dryads, ents, etc, drawing from the greek, neirads and sylphs. I certainly see an Ent card, that becomes a Pillar or permanent, probably producing a certain amount of random quanta, that becomes a creature to attack and turns back into a permanent at will.

dodge based defense: avoidance or redirection of damage or abilities.

ability to regenerate and fly


Cthonic
 :gravity :fire :darkness

augmentatoin: in line with zblader's reinforce idea, which I fully support, this is adding things directly to a card, equipment, such as the plate armor card.

combinatory effect: some pieces that ft together to make stronger things, like a cannon, that does damage and a special shell, that improves damage or a cannon that breaks, unless a certain engineer or enchantment is on it "combos", not forced, bt advised, like an engineer that adds enchant artifact to things, and a cannon that breaks unless enchanted, and removes the enchantment when it fires, or a creature that does momentum, but loses max HP and an armorer that adds max HP, cards that need multiple parts to achieve full ability

emplacements: permanents that interact with the creature fields, balista, battlements with hot oil, etc

strength based defense: armor, shielding, absorbtion

quanta ramp: permanents that produce select quanta, or specific quanta, for very high powered costs.

steam engines, cannons and metallurgy: mechanical, metal and stone based tech.

Ability to burrow creatures

First of all, are we going to make the new two elements (Wood/Metal) or are we just going to add new Gaian/Cthonic cards within the already existed elements?
Are we going to add Gaian/Cthonic cards within the Psi element as well?
Finally, here is the way I see things:


Gaian-based Elements:


1) :aether : Aether was always close to air and in some cases it is used to describe the highest height of the sky.

2) :air : For obvious reasons, this element 'loves' open spaces and 'hates' any underground terrain.

3) :entropy : Though mutants seem more likely to hide within caverns and underground areas, I find chaos to describe the anarchic evolution of life, so I think it has stronger connection with the surface and the :life element overall. Because of this, I view it more like a Gaian than a Cthonic one.

4) :life : Life creatures are beings of the surface. Moreover, Rustlers and Forest Spirits are actually plant-like creatures, so they need sun and fresh water in order to survive and grow up.

5) :light : Strong connection with open, well-illuminated areas, as well as great synergy with the rest Gaian elements.

6) :time : Time reveals the evolution of life (not with the same way entropy does however) and its creatures are more surface-like than underground. After all, Ancient Egypt reigned on the surface of the planet and deserts are sandy hot places on the surface (and not cold wet underground areas).

7) {optional} :rainbow : Have you ever seen a rainbow within an underground area? :P


Cthonic-based Elements:


1) :darkness : Caverns are dark places and home of bats (Minor Vampires) and other night creatures. Actually, the word Nightfall|Eclipse describes prefectly what I am talking about.

2) :death : The dead are burried underneath the surface. Catacombs are underground areas. Finally, undead usually hate the sunlight. Actually, the word Nightfall|Eclipse describes prefectly what I am talking about once more!

3) :earth : Burrow mechanic, metallic names, amounts of dirt/rocks/ground within the underground places etc. I think there is not any other element which describes Cthonic better than :earth does.

4) :fire : Though the sun heats the surface and civilized surface beings have mastered fire millenia ago, magma and volcanoes draw their power (and melted metals & minerals) through the extremely overheated core of the planet. So, it is more Cthonic than Gaian.

5) :gravity : Gravity pulls you to the depths of the earth and it draws its power from the core of the planet. Furthermore, its synergy with :earth is legendary.

6) :water : Most water cards are sea creatures who lurk in the depths of the oceans, far away from the sunlight. Moreover, underground areas are usually cold and wet. Finally, the quantity of underground water masses are tremendous. After all, a creature like Mind Flayer couldn't be Gaian, could it?

7) {optional} :underworld : This is underworld. 'Under' the 'world'...
