I honestly don't see much of an issue with Genesis either. (Gene and Evolution may have more specific references that limit us, but Genesis simply means 'an origin' and could be widely interpreted to mean a variety things in a nature based faction.)

The sun is an important component of Nature along with the rain, trees, soil, etc... I think it would be fitting to have an additional permanent like a 'sun' or creature/'sun spirit' in Gaian.

Thoughts on the above?

I personally, dont want an imbalance of earth cards in either faction. Please remove or change an earth card in Cthonic. Probably the permanent, since Gaian has Earth permanent.

While Gaian has roots in the earth, Cthonic lives surrounded by earth.
While Gaian uses dirt, Cthonic uses dirt, rock and mineral.
I think the imbalance is fitting.

I see this as a Faction War, centered around Earth. There should be a strong balance here, as well in any other Elemental Faction Wars, all sides should have equal use of the Central Element. Gaians probably use fire and gravity too, but its not reflected that way. Gaians probably pick up stones, and use metal for some things as well. Cthonics live in the Earth, but that doesnt make it as central as say Gravity, or Fire, or Darkness. I think its a part of their culture, but central to it.

Mostly, its that this is a Faction War, over the Element, Earth and I think it should be as balanced as possible between the two. This is plainly about earth, as a barrier, above and below. If it were between Birds and Bats and Flying Reptiles, Id put Air in the same position, if between Sharks and Dolphins, water. It just kinda evolved this way, but that is a primary thematic fulcrum to this exercise.

I see this as a Faction War, but between 2 factions rather than 1 element. One faction has branching out from the earth into the sky. The other has dug deeper into the earth. The war is in a chasm. There the sky meets and is surrounded by earth. The surface and flying forces enter the chasm where they are met by the tunneling forces from inside the walls and floor. The war seems not to be focused on Earth but rather to be an argument about above(Air/Earth) vs under(Earth/Earth).

Why would Gaian use metal or stone when they could use wood instead?
Why would Cthonic use anything other than metal/stone?
While there are exceptions to the sentiment of these questions, their nature does show an imbalanced focus.

a gaian would use metal to conduct electricity. they would use stone for making jewelry, sharpening knives (made of metal) and other likely uses.

Why would Cthonic use anything other than metal/stone?

they would use cloth and leather for clothing, they would use wood to make torches, they would use plants for food as desired, medicine for one
