Well, I dont want to discourage creativity, but "alien" doesn't sound like an element to me, it sounds like a type. Also sounds a little sci-fi for a fantasy game, but we'll see.

The Idea Factory wanted to create something like this, and I think they pushed Zanz a bit too hard about it. He said there'd never be another set of elements, but it's still fun to make ideas for this. They (the Idea Factory) moved on to pseudoelements.

Inaccurate.

Short summary of the history:

[Smithy] Long time ago a few suggestions for a 13th element were posted.
[Kael Hate] Kael Hate created the Quantum Mechanics thread
[Zanz] Pendulums were introduced in-game (Mark quanta see below)
[Zanz] The Alchemy theme was added to the game
[Design Theory]  Dual quanta (Example: Cost  :aether :aether :air) was discovered to be impossible without major changes to the quanta system.
[Design Theory] Interest in Pseudoquanta ideas (mechanics that manipulate the quanta from the existing 12 pools. Ex "Quanta matching your mark")
[Design Theory] Ideas for series with elemental themes emerged that did not have a 13th quanta pool. (aka Pseudo Elements)
[OldTrees] Terms (Alternate Cost Mechanic, Pseudoquanta, Pseudoelement and 13th element) were defined to be able to distinguish between the various ideas.
[Idea Factory] Idea Factory Formed
[Idea Factory] Idea Factory tried a project to see what it would take to design a quality 13th element and to give the best possible case for a 13th element.
[Idea Factory] Zanz was passively questioned about the possibility of a 13th element. (Zanz vetoed the idea)
[Idea Factory] Idea Factory finished the Mind Element exercise.
[Design Theory] Pseudoquanta and Pseudoelement ideas continued

Sci-fi isn't necessarily a bad idea in a fantasy game (after all it's just fantasy about the future, rather than the past like this is in most cases).  Also, Gravity tends to be the best suited with such ideas since technology falls under non-Entropic, since technology usually is designed around consistency.

EDIT: Got a little off task, but it has become official that there is absolutely no intentions now or in the future to add new elements.  Making an alien idea can be expanded instead not by it being its own element, but can span across the 12 elements as they probably related to them in some way, like dragons have, the only current archetype of creatures that has 12.

Also it would be quite difficult to re-establish the mechanics and build up a new element in an instant to compare with the twelve already there. I am already slightly wary of the pseudoelements.

I am already slightly wary of the pseudoelements.
Most are not high quality examples or are not pseudoelements despite their claim. Void was/is a good example of a pseudoelement with at worst a few mistakes.

The pillars are IMO OP, and the cards can be essentially played at any one time with the opponent only going to be able to utilise his advantage next turn.
But I've lost touch with what cards can be considered OP/UP in elements.

The balance was one of those mistakes. Which is understandable because void quanta is harder to balance.

Bloodshadow did try to balance it. The difficulty makes me understand why there are still imbalances.
It is more important to show an idea can be balanced without destroying the card than it is to actually balance the card. Balancing the card is the ideal way to show this quality though.
