finding legal artwork (hope I've posted in correct section) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=18948.msg241620#msg241620

I know there are links to free sources for art ideas. However, I'll admit I don't have photoshop/similar and have never really used paint. Sure, I'm willing to learn, but on the other hand really want to get some art quickly for new card ideas!

Whilst searching I often stumble across things like 'free wallpapers to download'. Now obviously these seem free for personal use, but I'm unsure of the legality of using it (only) here for a card idea, in fact, only to help forum members understand what image you had in mind and not even as final picture (since perhaps art style doesn't fit in with other elements). Hence I am unsure of the legal matters at steak, even when reading their copyright policy.

examples: "The copyright of all wallpapers belong to their respective authors" more is not mentioned. These wallpapers are for free downloading. If I were to use part of/all of such an image (only) to help promote an idea for a card, would I have to get permission from the original artist?

another example: "You may use this image personaly or on your website for recommendation and education purpose only by placing one of the mandatory reference links below. The image cannot be used for any commercial purpose without written consent of the original author. Please contact the artist directly via his/her website in order to obtain a contact information or get any image usage permissions."  This is a little more clear in the sense that I probably cannot use it. Although as it would not be for commercial purposes and that I would be adding a link saying who did it, would it not be possible perhaps?

I'm guessing the general rule is 'play it safe' but thought I might as well ask. Many thanks for help/info  :)
