Sorry to be commenting on this, but ithought sofr made it evade only targeting, thus still leaving it weak to spells that do not target: firestorm, pandemonium, unstable gas, etc.
/offtopic

Zaelix: i can see that used in otkos, but where in the deck is it placed?

PC vulnerable Antideckout is 2 cards + 2 :time|1 :time + weapon slot + 3 :time per turn.
An eternal spell that can also preform antideckout would have to cost at least 5 :time if not more.

Those all target. (I am unsure about Unstable Gas)
Flooding and CC Shields don't target.

IMO the discard effect makes no sense. draw 2 cards if discarded? how? theres only 1 space. and isnt that irrelevent, except as maybe slightly strong vs nightmare?
*Doh*... ok how about something like:
"Gain 6 :time if discarded."

Discard mechanic on this one in particular is useful since its draw bonus makes your hand more likely to fill up.
The discard effect should probably be negative to discourage Eternal only rainbow decks.
Ah, I'm getting the idea now.
Ok, how about this one:
Glyph of Geb
"Eternal: Retain when played.
Burrow an ally creature for 2 turns. All burrowed creatures die on discard."
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
If your zombie plan is
kill -9 `ps l | awk '{print $2" "$3" "$9}' | grep "Z" | awk '{printf("%s ",$2)}'`

Is Temporary Immaterial or Temporary Burrow a better effect for an Eternal Spell?

whoa. change it to "your burrowed creatures die on discard". all is to good as an oracle counter, and it shouldnt be benificial. i think that a temporary immaterial works better because the mechanic already exists.

Hmm... You have a point on the discard effect.
As for immaterial vs burrow; I chose temporary burrow here because it forces you to weigh out the reduced damage versus targeting protection. Temporary immaterial works too I suppose (would probably fit light or aether better though).

late to the party, but how about-

necrosis 1 :death
poison damage sustained this turn also reduces the targets maximum health
eternal

edit-
if a discard component is desired, it could simply add some poison counters to you.

1 card + 1 :death per turn + poison to reduce healing? Sounds fair.

hrm...IDK how balanced this would be but...
Pause 2 :time
delay target creature.
Basic eternal spell...
I notice that these eternal spell ideas seem to be easier to create for the more 'passive' elements, like life, light or time...

For lots of  :time per turn you can delay all creatures. Sounds fair.

It is easier to not suggest active effects for passive elements.

how about a spell that makes another card eternal? for a balanced approach, i was thinking something along the lines of-
spell 2 :earth
make target pillar/pendulum card in your hand eternal, but a cost of 1 :earth

As long as it doesn't create a problematic eternal spell it should be fine.

However the primary cost of an eternal spell is quanta. Usually it is not wise to have the primary benefit be the same type as the primary cost. Creating an eternal pillar might run into this problem.

I agree that if an eternal pillar is good, then an eternal spell that creates an eternal pillar from target is better.
