When designing a card of a certain element, it's known that the new card's use should fit smoothly into its respective element's current use; this concept is aided by the idea that each element has a "theme" of which it tries to adhere to. As such, we can also see that certain elements, when used in mono decks, can easily counter different mono-element decks while being dismantled by certain others, like an elaborate rock-paper-scissors. However, in rock-paper-scissors, rock will always tie with rock, paper against paper, and scissors against scissors. With that concept in mind, should an element be able to easily defend itself? Easily attack itself? Should this concept of a "tie" be implemented at all?

We already have a sense of this already in-game. Gravity, for example, has numerous creatures with HP greater than 5, yet its own shield blocks creatures with HP greater than 5. It can, on its own, bypass this through the use of momentum. It holds a nice tug and pull.

Not to limit creativeness in card design, but should such a concept be kept in mind when designing cards?

I feel like it's not the most important thing when looking into design.   I feel that most of what's already in the game just happens to work because of balance issues.  For example, Aether has a shield that's almost unable to be bypassed, but Aether still doesn't have any PC.   From a gameplay perspective, imo, this is a bad idea, because it leads to matches being more tedious.

While it may not be a priority, I think that's an new approach into figuring out what new abilities certain elements need. For example, as BS and dd have brought up ;), Light has difficulties dealing with it's own Hope shield. As a mono, it can only fuel a 12 damage blocking Hope which it can bypass with it's +18 attack to a dragon from 6 Blessings. However, Light's new Sanctuary heals at 24 HP per turn anyway. If worst comes to worst, Light can't deal with itself. No CC or PC.

We can also figure what elements can be best paired together. Light has at its disposal massive healing and quanta generating powers, but cannot, for the sake of itself, control any other aspect of the field, especially the opponent's, a specialty of Fire and Darkness. But why can't we put then together regularly without resorting to specialized sets like Raging Angels and Vader Sader? We need new cards to strengthen theses bonds, yes, but with what sort of theme?

Mono Element A vs Mono Element A battles should be diverse enough to be modeled at least with Rock Paper Scissors until it can be modeled with:

So Fire Rush should be able to kill Fire Stall and Fire Stall should be able to neuter Fire Rush.

well in my view rush is a deck that can throw a lot of damage so strong creatures and a way to put them out quick

and stall is a deck that forces a deck out or should so it needs healing hp and defense

On the fire v. fire debate, I'd like to point out pheonix means the balance between fire stall and fire rush is actually pretty good.
