The general basis behind the aether/life duo was "I stall with heals until I drop phase shields", with dragons as a win condition.  Back in it's day, that deck was brutal.

In one card, I'd make a duo blocker/healer, as I already posted.

Just to add a new mechanic, that will probably NEVER get in the game.

Thought Bonding | Spirit Bonding
7 :life | 6 :life
Permanent
Whenever you use Mindgate and obtain a creature, immediately play it for NX2 HP, where N= creature's cost.

Mindgate a dragon? 20 DAMAGE! Abyss Crawler? 8 DAMAGE!
Perception is the source of misunderstanding.

Why, yes. I do have a Mindgate necklace. It's how I ninja everyone.

Too specific, Nepy. One-card synergies aren't really that great.

As for ET's question, it's thematically easy (Heaven), but I'm not sure about what you could do for mechanic. Maybe have it make all undead creatures bioluminescent? I'm not sure what you could theme it to, though.

We have yet to have any cards that depend solely on another... except Dune Scorpion and any attack buff card. I'm just suggesting a mechanic not currently in the game. An advancement card that reaps equal to its rewards.

For "Heaven" a :light card. For every creature that dies, add a counter to Heaven. :death :death :death Salvation: Generate an Archangel for every 4 counters on Heaven.

Gravity Darkness? Void.

Darkness card.
Fill: Absorb 2 random quanta for every card played and add a counter to Void.
:gravity Crush: Deal damage to the target equal to the number of counters on Void. Sacrifice Void.
Perception is the source of misunderstanding.

:aether I do not know what Aether's connecting theme is. It has been associated with Improvement, the Divine, dimensional travel but none of these seems to connect IMO. Improvement doesn't explain Lightning, The Divine is broad and undefined and dimensional travel seems like an aspect instead of a whole theme.
:air or :time Although Air and Time have been dissected for personality (freedom vs velocity of time) they have used this personality in limited ways. Time's speed up version is restricted to draw power right now. These limited options restrict brainstorming much in the same way that ignorance of another floor limits one's exploration.
:earth Earth lacks much creature definition other than "above the curve" as such it is hard to determine what an :earth skill is. It also overlaps thematically with Gravity a lot but that is a minor concern.
:light Light is a very self orientated play style in contrast to Darkness. Most effects in the game are interactive. A :light :aether is probably the easiest duo card to come up with of the  :light duo card possibilities.

So a Duo card using any of  :aether :air :earth :light :time would have the most problems.
Of course opposing themes (Life's growth and Death's decay) are more difficult than perpendicular themes however even those are possible (Infection a growing source of decay)
"It is common sense to listen to the wisdom of the wise. The wise are marked by their readiness to listen to the wisdom of the fool."
"Nothing exists that cannot be countered." -OldTrees on indirect counters

From a deckbuilders perspective, none of the combos are that difficult or impossible.

When I first started, there were a number of duos that were supposedly impossible to make work and I sought out to prove them wrong and made successful duos with all kinds of wierd decks.

Like :life/:aether.  I could imagine this as a critter that was able to quint itself, an 'electric' critter with some form of CC based effect.  Conversely, an aether critter with a healing based effect could have a life effect or with the advent of mitosis a life based copy ability.

Every duo has something it usually does when paired together and ideally we'd have a critter for each elemet to synergyze with each other element to maximize this.   For example if there was a critter that was :water/:earth trident would be a much more useful card as is now has only loose synergy.
