Creature Affinities https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=20915.msg266619#msg266619

Just like weapons, only different. This started as a vague method I had of subtly balancing cards that needed it. It has since grown from there. Essentially, any creature with an Affinity to a particular element would receive a slight bonus, as long as your Mark matches the creature's Affinity. See the examples below to get an idea of how it works out. Feel free to use it for your own cards, but remember: this isn't a common ability. Think special, and try and use it only when you think it fits thematically. Let's not drive it into the ground, as it were. I'd also like to update this list as needed, so if you decide you do want to use the Affinity skill for your creature, please be kind enough to provide us with a link to the card's thread here.

Special thanks (and karma) to OldTrees (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3563), friendly CCC Team Leader, for fleshing out the Affinity bonuses.

Like it!  :)
Part of me really wants to say  :earth gets +0|+3 because of:
Quote
Elemental Bonus - Earth gets 1 free HP
Although I understand why not, they have to be all balanced, but still... :s maybe -1|+3 to counter balance  :fire?
Dunno, just putting thoughts out there...in general, really cool idea!

The +0|+3 would apply, but only to Earth creatures. Look at it this way: the +1 bonus to HP that Earth creatures already get is kind of an Affinity in of itself but don't confuse the two...one is a bonus for being an Earth creature, the other is a bonus for being summoned by an Earth Elemental(ist?). If the Affinity for Earth were +0|+3, that'd make for a total of +0|+4.

I totally feel where you're coming from though.

...maybe -1|+3 to counter balance  :fire?

I think this may be balanced... I mean, OldTrees checked it :P

Also, great idea, sounds useful as a balancing tool when you want to make a little buff to a card. I might ask you to use this one day :D

No need to ask. I'd appreciate a link here tho, Crucible-submission style, if for no other reason than to keep tabs on what's out there already for Affinity.

It is always wise to double check my work.

Suggested Changes:
:gravity -1|+4 (Gravity has very high health)
:water +0|+2 (typo in the OP)
:darkness +0|+2 (to balance the groups)

+2|-1
 :fire
+1|+0
 :entropy :time :air :life :light
+0|+2
 :water :aether :earth :death :darkness
-1|+4
 :gravity

I don't doubt the balance of these, but as OldTrees just pointed out, there are various ways to balance this. Think perhaps that'll be the big discussion, the fine tuning of affinities according to their element!

To whit: they were really vague at first, with no consistency. I say, have at 'er!

Would the OP be updated with the new affinities and could we discuss whether the affinities are balanced against each other?

Done and done. Let me know if I missed anything. Can I ask why the huge jump with Gravity?

When making the suggestions I evaluated +2hp as ~= to +1 attack.
Fire has very strong but fragile creatures.
Gravity has very resilient but weak creatures (charger is an exception).
Hence to add diversity to the affinities I made the Fire and Gravity affinities sacrifice one aspect to improve the other.
+2|-1 and -1|+4 respectively.

balanced against each other - yes. imo.
I agree with  :fire and  :gravity being what they are.
As to others, I agree on the balance of either +1|+0 and +0|+2.

I'd say there is always potential to fan this out more (like with fire and gravity) but also the danger of doing too much.
I also think there could be a case for swapping some around, if it was me I might swap  :death and  :light, just going by feel, no real reason :s some others perhaps too, find it hard to decide, but those too I felt most strongly about (not saying it doesn't work as it is now, just giving my opinion/feel on it all)
