Dead threads (ideas made before crucible) are not going to go into the directory, unless we add the smithy. The quality of the idea has no affect on whether or not a card is in the database, since the quality of an idea changes in the eye of the beholder.
By "quality" I mean the fact that the card idea uses the template and has card image. We have some older, great ideas, that are very good, but missing the correct template.

With Smithy cards the idea is naturally to remake the best ones, and send them to Crucible first. That is if we want to do that. But before we need to even thing about that, we have about 800 other ideas to take care off. :)

Where is this Directory going to be located when it is finished?
Who will have to maintain it and keep it up to date?
May I have a link to it?
Sticky topic in the main area, with both the spreadsheet embedded, and a link to a full-screen version.

Getting all those 800+ card ideas submitted, is going to be a big community volunteer project. Maybe we'll use one weekend for it?

Once we have all the current ideas added, the users themselves will have to submit their ideas in the database using the form. Submitted ideas will be proof-read by Card Curators.

Links are in the first post.

I'd assume it'd be in the original thread (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,19043.0.html), but if SG says otherwise I'm not one to object.
When projects like this one become official, there is no individual "ownership" over the idea anymore. It becomes a community project where everyone chips in. The most logical place is the main area sticky topic, so that is where it will go. And besides, the original idea was only links to card idea topics. This thing here is much more than that.

It's something to think about, but probably after this thing can operate on its own.

In regards to the yellow text, which main area are you talking about?

Also, I'd like to clarify that the original idea was not simply links to each card idea topic, but more of a scaled-down version of this. I simply began with links to each topic so that I could have easy access to the information in each card topic. I am at fault for this misunderstanding, however, due to myself having not clarified this in the original thread.

Try out the form and post feedback. Goal is to make the form as simple to use as possible.

Looks slick.  It inspires me to take my own shot at a database.  Surely that won't offend anyone (if I even have the time to do it).

I'd recommend adding a "variable" in the drop down menus for stats and cost.  Like how Scarab's hp ranges (N).

Doesn't matter who does it, as long as it works. I don't mind if we have a hundred different versions. We'll just pick the best one and community wins.

Isn't Scarab ability essentially just a buff "Increase HP (creature)"?

Current "All Cards" sorted data by Timer is a good start but needs some work. Here are some issues I can find:

- Too much horizontal scrolling (main issue)
- Some mechanics don't have a space between them (line break between mechanics would be optimal)
- by default data should be sorted alphabetically based on card name.

I've been looking into this some more, and I think we could have a pretty simple alternative solution. We could use a gadget like this one: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=91612 . It's very close to what I originally had in mind, because it uses a drop-down menu to pick a category, then show all the data in that category. For example if I want to see all card ideas that let me draw a card, I'll just pick "Draw a Card" from the menu, and it hides all the ideas that are not about card drawing.

Unfortunately I have a firewall issue which is why I'm unable to test out this gadget myself. Maybe someone can help me out a bit? Gadgets can be found in the "Insert" menu.

Here it is in action: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pnLDJiBKx5IjW-FGdZ-wnHg&hl=en#gid=1

I like this idea, it will compact the amount of resources (spreadsheets) needed for the project, and make for optimized usage. Gadgets can be coded out via google-script, as I call it, so it has much more flexibility than formulas. I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me, so I can try and get something to work out. But I'm not sure if this firewall thing will get in the way or not. :\

If worst comes to worst, I can take a video, or screenshots of the gadget in action.

EDIT: I also figured out that, if made the right way, this gadget can double as the search query.
EDIT: .....wow turns out coding a gadget takes 3 different APIs and uses basic HTML/Javascript O_o This might take me more than 3 days.
on the bright side, we should be able to embed the gadget itself into the forums using the code in the spoiler below:

Right, exactly.  I realized how hard it is to make a searchable database when investigating the Spreadsheets API.  I downloaded Eclipse and the Google extension for it but had little to luck figuring it out.  Coding is not my strong point...  But really though, a version of Google's "advanced search" is what would be ideal and amazing for the database.  Enter in keywords, a dropdown box for some basic functions of the card, the type of card, and element.

Um.. wait, what? You started recoding the thing? :)

If it is still unclear, the idea is that you select the data you want to use, then choose "Gadget", and pick the table Gadget. Takes less than a minute.

But for the Gadget to be fully functional, we have to do some changes to the data sorting as well.

UPDATE:

I added crusader using the form, other than the incessant need to switch back and forth between tabs, it was a smooth process. EDIT: Kael helped me find a workaround. +1 to you  :)

Lastly, we are going to need to find some way to be able to change the status of the card (i.e. crucible, forge, armory, archive, ect..), or just get rid of it all together. At the moment, this value is static, but needs to be dynamic.
