Thread Primary Goal: Fully Define All of What Other is and is not.
Thread Secondary Goal: Define Other so new mechanics can be derived.

General Views:
  • Other: Other is the final category. Not an element but it does have its own character. This character is best described as All or None. It can take three forms
  • Unity: Other represents things that exist in every element. This is to make certain concepts take few cards to demonstrate.
  • Diversity: Other also represents things of flexible natures. Objects that change dependent on elemental action.
  • Absence: Finally Other can represent the lack of elemental influence.
Other in Elements the Game:
  • Unity: Short Sword, Shield, Shard of Divinity, Shard of Gratitude
  • Diversity: Dagger, Hammer, Shortbow, Malignant Cell, Shard of Readiness
  • Absence: Quantum Pillar, Relic

I first thought that the cards in other were symbolising the non-magical (ordinary) objects that one can encounter in fantasy. Obviously the shards contradict this Idea ...

So other simply is All or None? it could be anything that fits into none or more than 2 elements.
If Nowhere is Somewhere, and Somewhere is Over there, How can we be Anywhere?

It is all of the elements, and yet none of the elements.

I look at it like this:
There is electricity, pressure, gasoline, and all other sorts of energy sources. Cars only use Gasoline, squirt guns use pressure to shoot the water, and your tv uses electricity. Other can use electricity, pressure or gasoline to be powered though.

Artifacts (or relics, if you will). Things that have no inherent elemental connection, and as a result, can be used by any Elemental who comes along (thematically-speaking). In this vein, one could look at certain permanents (such as Plate Armor or Sundials) as 'Other' class cards. Almost like the toolbox of Elements. I can easily see jewellery being implemented as a theme in Other (following the paths of the shards).
