I think every element can has futuristic cards, though cards like Armagio, Graviton Mercenary, Acceleration, Photon, Maxwell's Deamon, Singularity, Nova, Mutation, Schrodinger's Cat, Black Hole etc. are already enough futuristic-like. However, here are a few ideas of mine:

 :aether: Shock Trooper (a human in futuristic uniform who attacks with electricity, probably dealing 'spell' damage)
 :air: Helicopter (a high-tech helicopter with a CC ability or ability to 'transport' troops, like the Graviton Transport idea from the Forge)
 :darkness: Stealth Plane (like real-life Stealth airplane in appearance with cloack passive ability or something like that)
 :death: Necromaton (a dead body which still 'lives' via machinery and high-tech equipment, probably it would look like Stroggs from Quake series)
 :earth: Demolition Man (a high-tech explosives expert who can destroy permanents via explosives)
 :entropy Mad Scientist (a scientist with a special mutation active ability, which always turns the target to an Abomination|Micro Abomination)
 :fire Flamethrower (a weapon which deals little damage but it has a CC or a mass-CC ability)
 :gravity Mecha (very powerful and expensive robot with momentum)
 :life Alien Plant (a carnivorous alien plant with devour ability)
 :light Laser Beam (a 'spell' which deals damage according to how many Photons you have)
 :time Desert Tank (a futuristic tank which has a repair active ability that dealys it for 1 turn but heals it up to 5 hp)
 :water Submarine (a futuristic submarine which gains +3|+0 in a flooded area)
 :rainbow Marine (a futuristic soldier who can serve any element)

Laser beam can be both :light and :aether.
Desert tank can be both :time and :earth.

This is why I love subcategories, it makes it unique, rather than combining them tgt.

I think machines would be a lot better off as their own element "Technology" maybe. they could be contained in the current elements but the possibilities are so vast and widespread that you could remake all the current elements out of only machine and technology cards. It would just make a much bigger effect on the game as its own element. and probably even be easier to manage that way. but thats just my 2 cents.

A new element would have a bigger impact.
However:
1) Zanz is against the idea of a 13th element
2) Technology does not have an elemental theme. The smallest unit of Air is much smaller than the smallest unit of Tech.
3) It is harder to add a balanced element than it is to add an equal number of balanced cards. (I know for I have participated in designing a balanced element)
4) Machines fit thematically in existing elements. Steam power is :water :fire. Nuclear power is probably :entropy :gravity. Electricity is :air or :aether.

I agree with some of the answers, thematically the steam water fire combo makes a huge amount of sense, but when someone says future i certainly dont think of steam powered machines,  I think to some extent they could fit into a 13th element "energy" but energy makes up everything so its kind of a cop out individualism-wise.

In the EtG universe Energy is split into 12 types of energy:
  :aether :air :darkness :death :earth :entropy :fire :gravity :life :light :time :water
These are the quantified packets of energy in EtG. It is for this reason that Energy cannot be an element either.

Things that cost random quanta (Other cards like shards) use any of the 12 energies.

Things that produce random quanta (Quantum Pillar) produce random types of quanta.
