Water+Aether, Water+Death... Decks https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=15771.msg202119#msg202119
« on: November 16, 2010, 04:35:03 am »
I'm new to this game, just started 3 days ago and I'm already helplessly addicted to it.  :P

So, I've been trying to gain some cold hard cash by grinding Level 3's but I'm not really good at it. I keep switching decks and looking in forums for ideas but my win rate is like 5/10. And it really depends on the luck when I draw cards.

So far, I've come up with a few decks. One's a  :water:aether deck. (My starter element was water.) Another's  :water:death. Last one is a semi rainbow deck with no upgraded cards (obviously xD) I was hoping I could get some help and ideas on improving my deck so I could win more often and get more money?  ;D

Thank you in advance.

You clearly have some great ideas!  The one suggestion that I would make for increasing your efficiency is FOCUS.

For example: In Water/Death, concentrate 66-80% of your (non-pillar) cards on the one thing that Water/Death does well: poison.

In Water/Aether, you have a few strengths to choose between, but I like something like this:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i9 5i9 5id 5id 5id 5id 5id 5if 5if 5if 5if 5ig 5ig 621 621 622 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 8pp

You've got here a decent amount of soft creature control (Mind Flayer + Ice Shield), but you've also got a 'hidden' theme of unhittable big hitters -- Nymph's Tears + Aether Pillar + Quintessence = a massive 7 | 4 hitter that can subsequently Immortalize all of your big dragons -- all but the one you Fractal in case of lots of enemy CC. :)  In case of very long games, create a Nymph Queen from a Water tower, and then use it on your enemy's pillars, turning them into Nymphs which you can immediately Lobotomize, making 90% of them useless.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

For you're water and aether deck...
I would suggest a few things, first get rid of that ton of pillar and use pendulums, it will avoid that you are stuck with a ton of water pillar one game but no aether or the opposite.
I would also get rid of a few cards:
The hammer is not that much useful unless you get the earth mark to get +1 damage each turn (which you won't)
Flooding is useless against 95% of decks the only few decks that are filled with creatures are the fractal deck, the firefly queen deck and the pharaoh (really rare) deck.
Blue crawler is a weak card to me, it will die to any firebolt and fast against fire shield and carapace shield.
The quintessence, it can be a good card, but only when you got a specific card you wanna keep alive at all cost, which you don't really have here.  It's better to be able to play two dragons then one plus making sure it's still alive.
Here is my idea for you're deck:

For 13 quantam pillars running a total cost of 25 aether simply wont work, id stick to one of the 3 bigger ones, either 2-3 dim shields or 2 fractal, id reccomend against pu.
1 poison just doesnt really make enough of an impact, same with 1 nova in a deck with higher cost cards, 1 water pillar wont make enough of an impact, probably better off with another quantam pillar to fuel other elements as you're quite time/death/life/aether heavy for a 13 quantam pillar, 1 nova deck.

Lol, November decks from when you were only 3 days into the game.
First, I will determine the focus of the deck, then I will evaluate each card and whether it's a good card and complements the focus, then I'll post what I believe are the most optimized decks for the focus.

Code: [Select]
4t5 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i6 5i6 5i7 5i8 5i9 5ia 5id 5id 5id 5id 5if 5if 5ih 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61p 61q 61r 61t 621 622Now, you've got some good water creatures here, and we all know that aether creatures (except the fragile spider and the 0-hp spark) have a much lower damage-to-cost ratio than some water creatures. Then, you have some random control cards from both water and aether. That's good, they both have some nice control cards, but you have to pick and choose, because card space is precious. Anyways, I think that this deck is a control deck.

  • Hammer - A short sword does as much damage and costs less, so if you want a weapon use that. However, I don't think adding an unupped weapon is worth it.
  • Blue Crawler - pitifully weak card compared to toadfish.
  • Freeze - good control card
  • Ice Bolt - meh. Not many creatures have less than 3 HP, and I'd rather use a freeze over a chance to freeze.
  • Ice Shield - I lurv this card. However, I wouldn't want it clogging my hand if I'm also using Dimensional Shields.
  • Purify - Always good, but not worth the space imo. It just doesn't fit with the focus.
  • Dragons - Ah, the original beat-stick.
  • Flayers - Good for taking care of Maxwells and Momentum'd creatures when you run out of spells.
  • Flooding - situational, and therefore not worth the space.
  • Spark - no.
  • Lightning - yes. not many creatures can survive a lightning.
  • PU - situational, you can add it if you want. good for copying dragons or the opponents' incredibly buffed creatures.
  • Dimensional Shield - Don't need it if you're using Ice Shield.
  • Quintessence - I'd rather use the space for another creature
  • Fractal - Good for burst damage, if you have the quanta, the creature, and space in hand
  • Toadfish - best water creature in terms of damage-to-cost
Conclusion: Add more of the good control cards, take out the bad ones, add some good creatures (like toadfish). Make sure that each card works; don't add 6 fractals if you have no creatures but dragons, and you probably shouldn't add 6 PUs if you have no creatures but mind flayers (relying on being lucky with your opponent is bad)

4t4 52g 52g 52g 52g 52g 52g 52o 52o 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i5 5i5 5i5 5i5 5i5 5i6 5i6 5i7 5i8 5i8 5i9 5ia 5id 5id 5id 5idI think the purpose of the deck is to use reliable damage sources: poison is not affected by shields, and dragons are resistant to creature control. An anti-stall deck, maybe a semi-rush?

  • short sword - again, not the most efficient use of card space.
  • poison - debatebly better than short sword. Do less damage, but ignores shielding.
  • chrysaora - cheap by itself, but not powerful unless you have the time and the death quanta to power it.
  • crawler - no. I'd rather use these on a combination of more chrysaoras, pillars, or dragons. If you want the quick damage, replace them with cheap flayers or powerful toadfish.
  • freeze - good for time extensions
  • ice bolt - not very powerful unless you have excess water quanta, which would be really bad otherwise. Would rather replace all the water pillars powering it with dragons/freezes, unless you have weaponphobia of course
  • ice shield - need moar, or just drop them entirely
  • purify - situational
  • dragon - high hp, high attack, powerful, but must be paired with a lot of water pillars
Conclusion: Take out the situational cards, the crawlers, the ice bolts, add more stalling (moar shields/freezes), make sure you can kill the opponent, and you're good.

This is the poison deck you posted. I started to tinker with it, because Water and Death have great potential and strong synergies together. The only thing that this pairing really lacks is Permanent control, but poison is there to get around it, so you can survive without it.
Here's what I came up with after some testing with the Elders (ai3):

Yes, I traded some defense cards for more speed and consistent draws, but level3 shouldn't be much of a problem this way.
Swapped some pillars for Water Pendulums and changed the mark to Death. Almost everything you can play is cheap, so this should cover it easily.
Added one Chrysaora, just to have them everytime you need them. It's the main card in your deck, so it's good to have 6 of them.
Replaced the Dragons with Toadfishes, they are cheaper and can be summoned earlier, hit hard for their cost, and even if they die or blocked by a shield the few bites they can bring in helps tremendously with the stacked poison damage.
Added two more Arsenics, but that's only if you've already aquired them. Arsenic is a must have in a deck like this, but adding a few freezes instead (or more Toads maybe), or even Ice shields (though you'll probably only be able to play them later in the game) can fill up that space.
I hope this helped, level3 shouldn't be much of a problem with this deck, as it's fast even with a poor starting hand and none of the Elders are protected from poison.

Their are quite a few decks already running around the forums that use the great synergy that water/death have together. The most commonly found one being ScaredGirls deck Got Poison? (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,365.msg3002#msg3002) which uses the combo of poison/arsenic + physalia and freeze/congeal for CC. This is probably the most basic deck for PvP using Death/water poison factor. So, you can either shoot for a version like that or we can make a new version in which you use a better PvP version using ice shield and more poison since it looks like you don't own an arsenic.

A deck with ice shield would probably be the best as SGs, Got Poison, really needs an arsenic to rack up some major damage. So, we are going to remove the blue crawlers, the ice dragons, ice bolts, and the purify. Now we're gonna add chryosoroa and freezes with ice shields.

With a final copy looking like:

You also have components for both (rushes and stalls).

If you would like a rush deck:
We will need to get your deck down to 30 cards and also add in some more quick damagers. So take out your hammer as it is pretty useless in this deck, also take out all your pillars and add in 12 water pendulums, take out the rest of your water cards except for 2 ice dragons and add in 6 toadfish. Take out your fractal, quint, spark and dimensional shield and instead put 3 PU's, 3 lightenings and 2 phase spiders. This should have gotten your deck down to the 30 card mark and it has given you some decent attackers and cc which also can be used to finish off your opponent quicker.

Here is the deck:
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink

If you would like a stall deck:
We will put the card amount up to 50 and make it a pure stall and use your opponents deck against them. For this one im just going to say take everything out and add in 4 freeze, 3 ice shields, 3 purifys, 4 flooding, 18 water pendulum, 4 lightening, 4 parallel universe, 6 dimensional shields and 4 mindgates. Now for an analysis of how this deck will work. The freeze and the lightening and flooding are for cc to get rid of annoying creatures. The best way to play it is take out all the strong creatures in the middle row so that the strong ones have to be played in the flooded areas. The dimensional shields are used to stall as you use mindgate and pu to use their deck against them. use the ice shields  once you have used all your dimensional shields or you dont have any DS in your hand. Use the purify's to get rid of poison and also to heal yourself.
