carapace is more in because i like it than any thing else,  i originally had dusk mantle in and it didn't really help much because of how easy it was to heal of the damage that them missing 50% of the time wasn't helpful. but with no way to kill monsters i put carapace. its a great counter for pharaoh decks killing there scarabs before they can get enough hp to eat your monsters and ffq decks which have hope, it cant be stolen and with 3 fireflies they negate all damage apart from the one dragon carapace lets you kill those fireflies. those two just as examples. its a matter of preference monster control or less damage taken.

as to cloak i didn't think of it and its a great idea. i was looking for a more permanent counter but i suppose setting it all up in those 3 turns and then that done it will be hard to get rid of your swarm.

thanks for the idea will put some cloaks in

Well if you want to keep the basic idea (including thorn carapaces ;)) I would recommend something like this:
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5c3 5c3 5c6 5c6 5c9 5c9 5c9 5c9 5ul 5ul 5um 5um 5um 5um 5um 5um 5up 5up 5uq 5uq 606 606 606 606 606 606 606 606 606 606 8pn
I personally dislike 2 kinds of pillars (yay pendulums) and the Devourers will give you most of the :darkness you need. Hopefully you start out with at least 2 Dark Pendulums in your hand, you get to generate :darkness with your Devourers soon thereafter and eventually mitosis Dragons. Vampires aren't the best Mitosis targets because the targeted Vampire loses it's Vampirism (:() so I'd say healing through Empathic Bond is preferable. Although other cards can help this variant I suggest is quite streamlined on getting out the key strategy as soon as possible, but do tweak it to your own preferences :)

Like:
  • Vampire Stiletto would be an obvious choice for a weapon should you want to add one.
  • More Empathic Bond can help with healing.
  • More Steals to make sure you have them when you want them.
  • Drain Life as an alternative way to use excess :darkness
  • Minor Vampires or Gargoyles (instead of Dragons?) for damagers to multiply.

i agree the less types of pillars the better but pendulums only help when the quanta use is about the same for both elements and you need lots of life quickly, and speed isn't something pendulums do well unless there upgraded (i found these both out when trying a gravity version of this deck, didn't get enough life at the start and ended up with to much at the end)

the healing loss of one vampire gaining mitosis is nothing compared to the amount of vampires you can create with its new skill (the summoned monsters keep there original stats and skills)

i agree vampire Stiletto is a good weapon but both because of only keeping what i needed in and the fact i already had very high healing already it was left out

more empathetic bonds would be good but they cost lots of valuable  :life quanta and as well as the above reasons made me not put to many in

i had drain life in but had too many card so took it out, its a great card for this type of deck

minor vampires are already in but not because of there damage but there healing they only have 2 attack but the Gargoyles are a good idea

here is what i have ended up with not perfect but i think the ideas of my deck are great, use cloaks when setting up to increase your Chance of the deck working other strategy for the deck is listed earlier in the post perhaps i will redo my first post for the new deck
