Semi-original FG deck needs streamlining https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=29054.msg370866#msg370866

Hey folks. This is my first request for deck assistance, so be gentle.

This deck is one I've tweaked many times, based on a rainbow FG farming deck I saw in the forums somewhere. I really enjoy playing it, but there are some big leaks in its gameplay. Here's the image:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 5c6 5ia 5rp 5rp 5rp 5rp 5rp 5up 5up 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u6 717 71b 71b 74b 74b 7dm 7dm 7dm 7do 7ds 7gv 7h8 7k6 7k6 7n5 7q5 7q5 7q5 7t9 80d 80d 80d 8ps

It does well against FGs, but it can definitely do better. And I'd really like it to be stronger in the PvP Arena as well. It can outlast rush decks if it makes it past turn 7 or so. Against long-game control decks it eventually collapses. The issues it has as I see it are these:

1) Really slow to develop. The quanta mix is unreliable, but I'm not sure how to tailor the tower/pendulum mix for a deck this diverse.
2) Has severe issues against decks with a lot of permanents built for board-control. Shards, Mindgates, and the like give it a hard time. Getting a Pulverize in there would help a lot, I think, but I don't own one of those yet.
3) I'm guessing it's far too big, and maybe tries to do too much. I like how tricky the deck can be, though, and how it gives me lots of subtle synergies and win conditions. But I'd like a little more reliability.

Feel free to make any comments you think would be helpful, too. I'm hoping to keep this deck's adaptability intact, but make it a stronger deck overall.

First off, either drop the supernovas, or drop some towers, you don't need 27 sources of quanta. Second off, your using 6 different cards for permanent control, just use pulverizers, or butterfly effect. 3rd and 4th, needs more hourglasses, 3 simply isn't enough for 60 cards, and empathic and graveyard aren't doing much with only one copy each.

Going to copypasta some general information in here~

If you find that games take too long, play a different deck. Larger rainbows take a long time to finish games.

If you're still going to go for a 60-card rainbow, then here's how you can streamline it:
  • 22 Quantum Towers. Drop the Supernovas, since they're not going to help you much with such a huge deck.
  • 6 Hourglasses. Yes, you need that much card draw to set up in the early game.
  • 3-4 Shard of Gratitude. You need that extra survival healing for the early game.
  • Creature base. You'll want something that's more efficient. 2-3 Otyugh, 1 Firefly Queen, 1 Fallen Druid, and 1 Boneyard is the usual creature engine for a large rainbow -- eat everything you safely can with Otyugh, generate Skeletons and Fireflies, then mutate them with the Druid.
  • 2-3 Quintessence. They are win. Use them.
  • 2 Pulverizer and 1 Eternity. Pulvy lets you get rid of all sorts of annoying permanents repeatedly and lets you use more efficient cards than those Steals and Explosions. Eternity prevents deckout, provides creature control, and lets you finish the game faster by turning your Skeletons into other creatures.
  • 1 Permafrost Shield. One of the most reliable shields for damage reduction, as the 3-turn freeze effect is awesome.
  • 1-2 Protect Artifact. Very useful against Seism (on your Towers), Jezebel (on their Quantum Towers), heavy control FGs (usually on Eternity, Pulverizer, or Permafrost).

Thanks for the preliminary assistance, guys. Like I said in the original post, I don't have any Pulverizes yet. If I did, they'd be in the deck in a heartbeat. I tried using Butterfly Effect, but it seemed much too hard to get into play and keep safe. Maybe the Quintessences will help.

My creature mix doesn't seem too far off what Pikachufan recommended. The Ulitharid is a late addition I can easily lose. And I like having the Phoenix's near-permanence. Originally I had a Firefly Queen in the deck, but when the Oracle gave me a Blue Nymph, I wanted to give it a try. It's a LOT more fun to play with, and if I'm playing versus a non-live opponent, that makes a big difference in my enjoyment of the match.

Shards vs. Sanctuary: Is the added protection versus Ghost/Nightmare, Black Hole and the like worth the loss in casting ease and 1 HP/turn?

I don't mind decks taking a long time to finish. I just want them to get started a little faster. I'll try to revamp the quantum and control base as recommended, and hopefully that'll help. Thanks for the recommendations, guys.

Blue Nymph (:air) =/= Nymph Queen (:water). Blue Nymph is a nice alternative, since generating Unstable Gases is a fun and effective win condition against quite a few FGs. However, Nymph Queen is rarely worth using because of its high cost.

You'll want a mix of SoG and Sancs, as SoG has the chance to take away random quanta that you need. Sanctuary uses up some of that extra :light quanta that you usually aren't using anyway.

I'm not sure if running a large Timebow is the best idea for Arena play, since many opposing decks are Immolation-based rushes that can easily outrush you, or denial-based decks with lots of control cards that can lock you up while its win condition does its job.

Ugh, embarrassing Nymph element mix-up. I don't usually mind the high cost for Nymph Queen, since it's mainly such a late-game play. But that's a definite drawback.

Good point about the environment in PvP right now. If I can find a faster, more focused deck to use there, I'll go with that for Arena. Meanwhile, back to FG farming for me.

Thanks.
