To settle this argument:
Don't do a pure pend split. Manuel's deck is a good start but not optimal.
The issue with a pure pend split is you have to wait until turn 3 to cast spells of your mark. Upped games take around 7ish turns to complete, and unupped ones take around 11ish. That means that for half/quarter of your game, you can't use half your deck.
With mostly pends and a few pillars, you can sometimes/usually cast some of those spells t2, which is a huge speed advantage.
You don't want to use a pure pillar split due to inconsistency, either.
In the case of manuel's deck, I'd actually see if I could use graviton mercenaries instead of steel golems - that allows turn 1 damage and helps the casting of titanium and pulvy.
