obese decks... ;) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=5364.msg54217#msg54217

There seems to be a lot of hate on large decks, if anyone has a deck over 40 cards the obvious comment will be "lol why so many cards", I actually prefer larger decks, they might not be as fast but they are more fun and this game is about fun for me not endless grinding, anyone else want to give some loving to the fatties?  ;D

I'd play a larger deck if it were viable.  In this environment, speed is often key, so the only decks that can really afford the depth of a 60 card deck are dedicated mono or dual time decks, and rainbows.

Yes speed is often the key to grinding, but large decks are often more fun. If you where to make a deck for just the fun of playing it instead of thinking of effective grinding what would you make?

Not trying to be a downer here, but what fun is a deck that is beaten every game because it can't get rolling by the 8th turn?

The idea of the deck might be fun, but part of the fun of actually playing a deck is being competitive, which, as stated, most larger decks can't really do.

TBH, I play to have fun; its the main reason I've largely avoided FG grinding.  I get enough excitement with AI5 and occasional PVP.  That being said, unless you get the ratios to work the way you need to,  you can often achieve with 30 cards faster than with 60 cards, especially with more complex ratios.  Even though I'm not nearly as competitive (addicted!) as some here, I don't like losing.

Actually my view is more of a centralized one. Take for example the genre of generic anti-FG rainbows--the sizes range from 33 or 34 cards to the maximum of 60. The 33 or 34 card rainbows struggle with quanta flow, especially since they require eternity's rewind to save them from deckout, but are highly surgical in nature ie the quinted oty comes out fast as do all the other strategic components of your standard rainbow. The 60 card ones, or even anything 44 and above for that matter, naturally have no problem with quanta generation. In fact they probably stock sundials which stall to generate quanta and draw card, and thus bank on the strategy that the longer quantum towers are in play, the more comfortable it is meeting quanta needs. As such, I personally find the balance to be at 37 cards for myself, but of course different people will have different views.

In short, while an obese deck needs drawing capability to achieve the desired strategic outlay and thus is forced to incorporate a workable stalling mechanism which is not 100% perfect, a compact one often lacks the bulk to win comfortably and might straggle resource wise especially with permanent control targetting the already scarce towers. However, it is up to each of our personal tastes to decide what balance of these two weaknesses to accept in the field of deckbuilding.

I couldn't agree with you more panter.  Yes of course I have speed decks for when I need to grind out money for upgrading and such but I use decks based purely on particular ideas which are rarely extremely effective.  When using these "obese" decks I tend to use them only on AI3 which is easy enough to beat with pretty much any deck that is put together sensibly. I even have a 60 card deck that I tend to use against T50 that is designed to counter against small decks and force them to deck out while given elemental mastery almost every time.  It works very well against some of the best designed decks out there as the AI rarely ever plays the top50 decks with their 100% intended strategy leaving me the opportunity to come in and use a strategy that is fun and fairly effective even though it would fail miserably against another human player.   :)

I like fat decks but only with hourglasses :P and I'm using 54 card anti-FG rainbow with entropy mark ;D
With additional time towers and 5 total hourglasses I often draw 2-4 (not counting the 1 you get at the beginning of your turn) cards per turn which gives decent speed anyway. Ahh and entropy mark because I like to power surernovas as soon as possible and I'm using purple nymph which is extremely entropy consuming :)
