Upgrade cards

So, I know that with the exception of pillars/towers you can only have up to 6 of the same card in your deck. Can you add upgrade cards too? Sorry, I phrased that badly, say you have six toadfish in your deck, can you add a pufferfish (upgraded toadfish)?

Also, what kind of cards should i upgrade? Dragons, rare weapons, status/healing, creatures I just really like (like toadfish)?

The answer to your first question is no, even if like toadfish and pufferfish they may seem like relatively distinct creatures.

Upgrade cards that will enable you to build an FG farmer. Start of with otyughs and hourglasses if you want to build a rainbow, for example. Building an anti FG deck is an investment with the long term goal of enabling you to afford upgrading other cards.

you can only have a maximum of 6 copies of a card combined upgraded and non upgraded.
so 6 toadfish + 6 pufferfish is a NO NO.

i suggest you upgrade the cards that are significantly better in the upgraded version, for example Otyugh goes from 0/3 to 0/5 which is a HUGE benefit, the electrum hourglass lets you draw a card with half the quanta...

Look through the cards and see what the upgrades do. If you think, hmm, this is an interesting /nice upgrade, then this card would be a good card to upgrade next.

The Stone Skin upgrade is a bad one. (probably one of the worst )
Oty, Pufferfish, Hourglass, Flying Weapons are good to upgrade.

My first upgrades were Flying/Animate weapon (because this is a cool upgrade) and then Oty/Hourglass

Shards of Gratitude  are a good idea, too.
