Fiddling with CCYB https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=29776.msg378882#msg378882

Hello, I've recently spurged and have a current deck of CCYB (1.24 I believe) almost fully upgraded, my question is how to personalize  it. My first attempt  was -1 lava destroyer -1 fractral for +1 Vanidium Warden and +1 blessing. I found I drew nothing good for ten straight games.

second attempt involved a Dune scorpion and unstoppable in place of a lava destroyer. No matter how many cobinations I try it seems to kill my draws and starting hand, can anyone help me pinpoint exactly where things are going wrong?

Destroyers are an absolute must, otherwise you don't get good damage out fast enough. Fractal can be swapped for mindgate, firefly queen for air nymph, a shard or two for sanctuarys/aflatoxin. Jade shield is you swapped out firefly queen. I'm sure there some others i'm missing, but those are just a few of the common ones.

Swapping out a shard or two for PAs is also common.

Sundials are also a good card to add in.
Help against rush, add draw power and help with EM.

I did play around with CCYB a while ago - at the risk of stating the obvious - it under-utilises (i.e. doesn't) its light, dark and death quanta. So it seems to me the best place to start alterations would be in these areas -  maybe a guardian angel to counter opposition CC or swap a SoG for a sanctuary or (I know it defeats the whole object of CCYB but . . . ) perhaps a Bloodsucker\Parasite (CCYnotBalittle perhaps ? ).
By eck it's reet gradley, it's a proper Sqantic that is, I tells thee.

Guardian Angel is worthless because it will come out way too late and you quint nearly everything anyway.
Sanc is useful. I think I would add a sanctuary or maybe 2-3.
Bloodsucker/Parasite is garbage.

My rainbow deck, which is somewhat like CCYB (but better IMO :p) uses sanctuary; it's a very nice card, and a must against Dark Matter, and helps a lot with Decay, plus it's like SoG #7.  Improved Miracle isn't a bad choice either for light, but I find that my deck is most likely to lose in the first few turns, and usually before I have 12 :light:; if my game drags out, I've usually won anyway.  I don't use any death/darkness in it, so I have no suggestions there.

Depending on your quanta usage, I have found Steam Machine to be an acceptable substitute for Lava Destroyer.  It starts off slower than the destroyer, but after about turn 8 or so (I counted it out but forget now) it is better.  The Machine also doesn't bend over to stuff like Fire Shield or cheap removal like shockwave.  Sometimes the AI will waste a ton of cards killing one Steam Machine.  I've seen it use 4 shockwaves to kill one, for instance.  (it had an arctic octopus in play too lol but didn't use it)

Actually, I'll just show you my current list.  If you don't have the nymphs, I was using a second pandemonium and an improved antimatter before I got them.
