Not sure about the shards. The Readiness comes in handy for the Nymph but i rarely draw it.

Not sure which mark to go with (Life or Aether), but I'd guess Life.  Also, you can try Fractal'ing Frogs instead of Cockatrices if you find yourself short on Life quantum.  The major downside though is shields, particularly Titanium Shield.
