Depends on the opposing offense.

Assuming mono
40|32 damage, 4 effective turns damage negation.
It is advantageous if their offensive damage per turn is 10|8 or more. However it still costs a card so I would only use it if the offensive damage were 11|9 resulting in 4 healing which is comparable with Holy Light/2 or Healing/4 which is the approximate value of a card without quanta cost.

If you are not mono death then the offensive damage requirement increases by ~5 damage per turn per 4 quanta lost.

If the threshold is met then chaining is not necessary though it is useful. If the threshold is not met then playing SoS is foolish.

If your opponent has 1 dragon on their side of the field it begins to look decent. 2 dragons and it looks delicious. Same goes for creatures with attack on par with dragons. 11|9 attack is an easy threshold to be facing.

thats true but what if your just facing 2 or 3 little creatures? u want to take 40 damage to heal /prevent 12? or 15? near end of game and you have only 30 health? the next attack cuts you in half? makes it useless unless ur playing agaisnt rush decks with high attack power.

Eh i still think making it lower max hp would be the best option, but Zanz obviously knows thats an option so he probably is purposely not implementing it for one reason or another.

2 or 3 little (atk <5|4) creatures? then no it is not useful. However if your opponent will not even field 11|9 damage per turn then why worry? Just outrace them to victory.
If you are at 30hp and the next attack would cut your hp in half (15) then you are just 11|3hp shy of effectively negating 60 damage. Perhaps pack spell based healing for the times you were unlucky enough to forget to play SoS the turn before when you were at 45hp?

Of the new shards I've gotten so far, this is the one I've used extensively, and so I'll make a few comments:

Sacrifice is definitely a powerful shard, but, at least in the deck I'm using it in, it's not the complete gamebreaker I was worried it might be.  You have to be careful to time when to use it; if your health drops too low, it's a dead card, plus YOU will be dead soon after :p  Play it too early, however, and you either waste some of the potential for it, or worse, just take damage unnecessarily from it.  It also combos nicely with shard of divinity; play divinity first to get your health up to where you won't die, then drop this.

It's pretty mean in pvp; I just took it into pvp2 for the hell of it, and ended up against a firestall.  Once I had my opponent poisoned enough, I played shard of sacrifice, and there was literally nothing that the opponent could do about it.  I don't think he/she had seen the card before, because they tried to OTK me the next turn with fire lances, and it just healed me   (or else they knew they'd lost and decided to just give me free electrum)

I like discarding GotP with SoS effect it heals me 13 HP very fun shards and it make the poisondial deck very efficient, with even a good EM rate
