I think a turn reduction would help, but this card (in its current incarnation) will definately change the metagame where shards are concerned

What if we discuss a different advantage to Death alignment as well? Consuming all quanta from other elements and not consuming Death quanta looks so stupid...

How about giving a poison counter to opponent? Or to a random opponent creature?

This card has several Glaring problems.
1) 5 turns means that having 6 could easily stall for an entire battle.
2) It has no casting cost
3) If countered, the caster essentially loses

Solution based on these flaws
1) Change to 2 (3?) turns
2) Make it cost 3-9  :death to play
3) Make it immaterial

People won't pack holy flash because of this card. I'm not concerned about that. People hardly pack purify even after its last buff.

Without immaterial status, especially with so many other shards being introduced, PC will become much more common. If this card is destroyed, its literally game over for the caster. This allows the card to keep the theme of going to 1 hp which fits death, AND gets rid of the uncertainty of if you should play the card or not.

That uncertainty is the only thing that makes it even possibly balanced.  I'm guessing it most likely WILL have a casting cost eventually and the number of turns being decreased wouldn't be surprising either but making it immaterial would be completely broken.

This is why it should not be immaterial, if you really want it that bad hold back a nova or earth tower and PA.  Heck you could even cast silence before the shard.  At this point you would deserve it.

My first thought would be that this would work just fine even if it were reduced to two turns of damage inversion. You would just wait to use it until you were almost dead, then unless your opponent had PC you get ~3 turns of additional life. It's like a Dim shield, but with less counters (works against poison, bolts, etc) and it's less effective if used before you're already low on hp. It's not so much something that you'd chain together, but rather a card that you'd include one or two of to extend your life in a pinch.
