Its always underpowered, with darkness mark its barely useable. Since its only cause loss of life as long as you dont have any other dmg in play its utterly worthless. Not even in stall would i use it as darkness have far better cards.

was looking through some of my old card ideas and noticed i had a similar idea a while ago for my gems of vice series.  doubt he will claim that it inspired him, but at least i can say i thought of something that kind of ended up in the game.
Gems of Vice:
These gems are the antithesis of Shards of Virtue and as a result cannot be placed in a deck at the same time as any Shard of Virtue.

In PVP maybe, but it beats many arena decks. If you have no method to raise maxhp, this is enough to kill you.

I totally disagree with this. Protect them with protect artifact, and use them in a doubled deck, all merged with some creature and permanent control, and you will obtain a powerful deck. Another possibility is with Devourer, Earthquake, and protect artifact.

The issue with it is that there are far faster forms of damage. 18 damage at tops, and thats with 6 copies. If you compare that to rushes, which will tend to get that out by the 3rd-5th turn, then its horrendously weak.

was looking for a buff this card section for this card. but it showed none on the search. and was going to make buff this card topic. but ,
im not sure if buffing it, is what it needs.  maybe it needs to be something completely different, darkness was such a good element to make shard templates for. not sure that slot should have been used up for this SoV.   these might be just really strong oppinions.    but it just seems so under-developed, under-powered, and just just..idk.
                                       
but if its just going to get buffs or somehow better balanced/developed.  then here's my suggestions.
make it start on 3 per turn, 4 if mark is  :darkness.
allow it to drop you below 1hp, effectively killing you.

One cool adendum would be: anytime your oppenent is affected by a healing spell or effect they lose an additional 1 hp (2 for dark mark). That would make it pretty devestating :D

Not sure if a similar idea has been posted, but one option might be to remove the extra damage from Darkness mark and instead add an ability that, while this shard is in play, all Darkness creatures deal damage to maximum HP instead of current HP (or just darkness creatures you control).

It still suffers from the fact that damage won't be combined if you do damage before and after playing this shard, but gives the potential for a high amount of max-HP damage. Another downside of course is that you require a non-darkness creature, weapon or spell to kill the enemy unless your shards are destroyed.

If it applies to both players' creatures it could be used against darkness creatures to balance damage between Current and Maximum HP.

Mmm... I disagree. Even as a counter to SPlat, it kind of fails on its own merit. Show me a viable SoV based deck counter to SPlat. By based, I mean the deck doesn't rely on spamming vampires, and SoV actually plays  a significant role.

27 Stall cards (anti Neurotoxin focused) and Dark pillars, 6 SoVs, Dark mark.
Include 1-2 damage cards for the last 1hp
Sounds good?

So Aether/Dark stall using Devourer and Phase Shield with SoVs as a win condition and the Dagger as the final 1hp.
