The most balanced Mono-Dark? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=1064.msg9850#msg9850
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:17 pm »
Dark is theoretically the best element for a Mono deck, because it has speed, creature control, permanent control, healing, shielding, and even denial. So, what is the most well-balanced Mono Dark that is capable of all of the above?

I'm guessing this'll be pretty hard with unupgraded cards, so I'll try with upgraded cards first:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t5 7t5 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t8 7t9 7t9 7t9 7ta 7tc 7tc 7tc 7td 7td 7td 7td 7td 7td 8pt

Improvements? Note: I want this deck to be capable of everything, including control, healing and denial. I'm afraid that if I take away any Vampires or Pests, the healing/denial would not be significant enough.

To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

12 Obsidian Towers
3 Obsidian Dragons
1 Improved Dusk
4 Improved Steal
1 Eclipse
1 Vamp.Dagger
1 Syphon Life
6 Vampires
1 Liquid Shadow

Hits hard and fast, forget dinealing and hailing and sharting and all that BS,
unless the rainers get their ONE lucky card in the nick of time most of my
games are over in 5-10 turns.

There exist a few light variations but for the most part what can't be done with 30 cards
just takes forever, a simple one-way strategy allows little room for silly mistakes, I unfortunately
found pests to be of the variation that only prolong the game.

This deck plows the opponent into submission long before they can pull out their wanker cards,
I win just a bit better than 2 games for every one I lose.

Achieving balance with 30 cards is very difficult indeed. But as almost all mono decks need to emphasize speed, all modifications i did were mostly to improve speed.

-2 Dragons to make it faster, +1 Tower for better % with starting hand as this deck will always be faster with at least 2 towers in the opening hand.

+2 Nightfall. For faster damage, faster healing and generally faster games. Also it makes sure you always have one in case it gets destroyed. IMO an early Nightfall is tons better than an early dragon as it greatly improves all your creature's survivability.

-1 Siphon Life. This spell will almost always be played only when you're about to win, about to die or for killing your natural enemies, Otyugh and creatures with Butterfly Effect.

-1 Improved Steal. With the amount of healing you get from Eclipsed Vampires, you will rarely need to steal anything. You will want to reserve this for pulverizer, electrocutor, fire shield and spike carapace.

+1 Vampire Dagger. This is arguable, but it grants damage/healing so this will almost always be staple to a mono darkness deck. I do replace this sometimes with another Improved Steal, Liquid Vampire or Obsidian Dragon.

I actually use this deck in PvP2 and farming Top 50. It's very fast and efficient. But for better win % i add 2 Fractals and Aether Mark. All other cards are the same.

personally i really wanted to make this deck, but unfortunately i am broke :(. so i thought to myself, how can i make this deck ok, but unupped and the answer was add 3 pillars. it works effectively for lvl3 and i occasionally beat t50 so it's not to bad unupped with 3 pillars.

I run something similar, but I drop an Eclipse for another dagger and one vamp for a dragon.  Unless you get a very crappy hand, you're likely playing SOMETHING out first turn and if I go first, I always open with a dagger if possible. Plus the extra gives you another if it's destroyed and I've never felt lacking for an Eclipse. As far as the Dragon goes, eh, it's interchangeable with a vamp, but if for some reason I go up again a 'togh without a siphon in hand, I like that the dragon can stay out of draining range.

I've been running mono dark since the game came out and I believe I've streamlined it down to its most efficient form.

Mark of Darkness
9 pillars
6 devourers
6 drain life
5 vampire
2 eclipse
2 steal

I've tried just about all the different forms and this seems to work the best. I cut out dragons because they're slow and clunky. When you play them you've generally already won and they take 2 points off of all of your drain lifes.

I run 6 drain lifes because they are an amazing finishing card and are great utility for fixing things you can't deal with in the middle of the game. there have been plenty of games that I ended because I hit them with 3-4 drain lifes for 60-100 damage.

2 eclipses is occasionally aggravating because the second one is a dead card 90% of the time. I've avoided dusk mantles and vamp daggers because they usually end up stolen and I don't want to waste one of my few steals on getting them back when they generally have better stuff to steal.

Mana denial is very possible if they're also running a non rainbow deck. I generally get two devourers on the field by turn 2 and it just puts the opponent off of their curve so much that it's not that difficult to take the win.

It was a toss up between running the last vampire or the last drain life, after testing both in quite a few games I came to the conclusion that the drain life seems to be better in the majority of circumstances.

Just remember save your drain lifes as long as possible. Unless you're in danger of dying next turn theirs no reason to play it on them except to kill them. And get rid of only the creatures that pose the largest threat to you. Try to hold 3-4 in your hand to catch your opponent off guard and kill them before they expect it.

Here is what I consider a beauty
Code: [Select]
7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t4 7t5 7t5 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t6 7t8 7t9 7t9 7t9 7ta 7ta 7tb 7tc 7tc 7tc 7td 7td 7td 7td 7td 7um 7um 7um 7um 7umIt gets awesome winning percentages and EM rates at AI 3 and even EMs unprepared PvP 2 opponents.

The pendulums are there to mitigate the effects of earthquake.
It has only a 0.33% chance of not getting a tower/pendulum in starting hand.

Obsidian Dragons enormously increase damage potential in case of a lot of healing.
