Would you be interested in Cygnia tournaments?

My schedule is crazy busy right now, but if I am able to I would be totally stoked to participate in any kind of tournaments / pvp events etc that are planned.

I know in openEtG we had a very flexible 'arrange your own matches' scheme, much like the leagues here, that were used for tourneys. That would be easiest for me since I can't always guarantee that a particular time slot will work from one week to another.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would want to participate regardless of whether there were any rewards offered or not.

If its really an issue I could shell out 5 bucks for a reward code and give it to the TO as a grand prize or something... Or even make art for a 3D badge reward.

As I said, my time is limited but I will still try to pitch in and participate in any way I can.

You announced Cygnia just as a side tool to test new cards. As it seems now, this is going to become a second oEtG step by step. The lack of grinding doesn't make any difference for a lot of players... and will even be liked by a lot, I guess.

The point was to give an outlet for people to play Cygnia PvP.

Game progression and grind are similar but not the exact same thing. For example, building fun decks to put up in Arena vs grinding Arena for shards.

I should note I did not announce Cyngia as just a "side tool". If this was ever implied as such, I apologize for being unclear.

openEtG has a booster packs system, alters the original EtG cardpool to something noticeably different, and overall promotes people to play it instead of playing EtG. You might as well argue "Why play EtG when you have trainer?" Both serve separate purposes and appeal to different crowds as a game mode for enjoyment.

Now, before the PvP side of staff further raises their torches and pitchforks at me for "betraying Elements the Game", I'd like to make this clear: Cygnia's goal is NOT to displace Elements the Game. I fully respect events like War, World Championship, and Trials, and will not be suggesting this as a replacement for Elements the Game on any events of that scale. Leagues was not my initial intention and I only considered EtG electrum reward codes to begin with as a way to direct people that played Cygnia towards Elements, not away from it.

I see now that anti-oETG sentiment is still strong here, and as someone who sat in that camp myself up until Zanz said it was okay, I'd feel pretty damn bad if this somehow actually managed to steal EtG's thunder even slightly, if you'll pardon my French. Out of respect for the work the PvP Staff does here, I will not be giving awards for any Cygnia-based PvP interactions that happen within the CI&A. Tournaments and a mini-League are still on the table since people have shown interest, but I will not promote them to the level that they start taking attention away from normal Elements Tournaments or other events.

Imo if we need the new cards to be balanced, then some attention will be needed from the players of Etg. We probably knew that they will need to be tested at some point and this looks like a decent opportunity.

We will need -some- promotion, yes, but my point is that I don't want to see chat constantly spammed with Cygnia advertisements or Cygnia being pitched as anything more or less than "Elements the Game with card ideas". That kind of behavior is disrespectful to this community, IMHO, and I will hold any user that attempts to engage in that behavior responsible, myself included.

Cygnia exists to let the people of CI&A play with and balance their card ideas, not act as a replacement EtG. If we're hosting a tournament, I'd like it to be clear that that is our only intention from here on.

Yes, because it's fun to play with new cards and it is the best way to balance cards. (Or rather to find unbalanced cards)

I think that a league would be much better than tournaments, since it requires less time commitment (at least, at one time) and allows more flexibility.

True. We could also combine both and instead have something like an "arrange your own matches" tournament like Odin suggested, where everyone completes their matches over the course of a short period of time (e.g. a week). That way we don't require people to commit for too long a period of time but we don't force everyone to be online at a specific time either.

The tournaments we have had at OEtG were almost all non-realtime. I.e just like a pvp event is here: The brackets are made at the start of the event, and then you have X days to finish your match with your opponent and then next round begins.

As the purpose of Cygnia is to take conceptual work to the limits of testing and playability, we have unlocked the poll and will allow it to run indefinitely until Card Curators take action regarding Cygnia Tournaments.


We would like to remind everyone, as has been stated before, that the ultimate goals of Cygnia have no intentions of replacing EtG as it is simply a fantastic tool for testing out ideas and seeing the creative process come to life.

No answer is incorrect in this case, but this is not the place for criticisms of Cygnia as a concept. Feedback is always welcomed however, and so any criticisms regarding Cygnia may be posted here in the revamped Feedback thread.
