Let's call the center row positions as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (creatures comes in the order of 4 - 2 - 6 - 3 - 5 - 1 - 7, IIRC).

If a creature in slot 4 is targeted, the damage will splash to 3 and 5, right? If 4 didn't die, but 3 and 5 died, where are the craters?

It would appear on the slot of the creature (or creatures) that died, so if the creature on slot 3 died and the creatures on 4 and 5 stayed alive, then there would only be a crater on slot 3.

EDIT: Hmm, should Crater actually be a card instead of just a graphic? It could be 0|1 and immaterial and does not attack or something.

Crater is an Object.
Objects can be capitalised.

Like how phoenix spawns Ash when it dies.

So do you mean in the sense of Ash, like a different non standalone card? I think having the crater be a non standalone card would be interesting, although not sure if I would classify it as a creature though.

Not necessarily - I was thinking along a graphical crater - though an Other, immaterial 0|1 creature as you earlier proposed could certainly work.

what happens with pheonix?

Ash would override the Crater, when the Ash dies (or Phoenix is lobo'd), then it would create a Crater. I'm assuming the same would happen with creatures affected by Aflatoxin.

Casting SoW on it would only get you a creature that deals 0 (spell) damage

Or it could simply be burrowed, removing that possibility altogether, and fitting better thematically.
