I think it seems too high to be true. I think we could make up and consider the fact that creature with 1 or 2 attack would skip their attack and won't deal any backlash damage. Still would it be this high ?
It is outrageously high I know but that is what the numbers I crunched earlier in this thread indicated.
DR 1, Backlash 1 for 7 :aether|6 :aether seems to be your best bet. DR 2, Backlash 2 seems to be asking too much.

Of course this was calculated with the old 1:3 randomness ratio which I am starting to refine. But the idea still stands that a DR 1, Backlash 1 shield would be close in power theoretically to the 6 quanta mark. Increasing to DR 2, Backlash 2 would make it the most powerful shield (raw power evaluation not taking cost into consideration)

What if i made it like this,

Unupped :
absorbs physical damage taken by 1.   :aether :aether Mind Link :  absorbed damage is dealt to opponent for 1 turn.

Upped :
absorbs physical damage taken by 2.  :aether :aether :aether Mind Link :  absorbed damage is dealt to opponent for 1 turn.


Then could it stay with  3 :aether | 5 :aether ?

Perhaps (probably not) but why are you so adamant on having DR 2 on a cheap shield with an additional effect? Backlash would work fine as a DR 1 costing 7|5 or 6

I thought of making a cheap shield for aether and came up with this idea. But i never thought that the ability would cost this much in game.

My part seems illogical so i will change accordingly.
