NOTES:
"Inspiration will come to you today, but don't hold your breathe"

"Sky-blades of Lightning. Deadly they strike, fast and true. There is no escape"

"Opposing creature" means the creature in the corresponding field slot on the opposing side.
I.e. if you had a storm-blade defender in play and moved it to the slot in the center of the field, then it would stop the attack of whatever creature the opponent had in their center slot.

The defender's ability works like a gravity pull, but only redirects attack from one slot. However, it will block creatures with momentum or spell damage as well. Unlike gravity pull, however, it only lasts for one turn. E.g. it must be re-used each turn you want to block a creature.
(this is can be a good thing, however, since you can let the creature heal if it gets too weak to continue blocking)

The * abilities count both the weapon their owner holds in the weapon slot as well as any flying weapons.

Lore:

-Excerpt from the Journal of a Graviton Mercenary during the third decade of the Sky Wars.

"Day 31: Yesterdays 'assault' on the Kirisang Temple ended in an inglorious route.  Intel said that the temple was down to a skeleton crew for defense. It wasn't hard to see why. When we got there the temple's outer walls looked nearly deserted save for the scant handful of sentries…
A few was more than enough. They moved so fast it made adrenaline pumping cockatrice look like an iceberg. One minute they would be behind the wall and then in the blink of an eye they were staring you in the face, with their lightening wreathed swords making the hairs on your back stand on end… And that was if you were one of the lucky ones.
They took out half of our rear flank before we even caught a glimpse of their shadowy assassins… Then they started animating the weapons from the racks they were sitting in... And thats when things took a turn...
Captain says we should count our blessings we lived through the retreat. If you ask me they LET us go. They were sending a message: Only a fool thinks Kirisang is EVER undefended."

Love it! Did you work with Z on this?

I feel that Defender's hp is too low for it to generally survive and heal to defend again.
It is the greatest mystery of all...

Thanks!...
I came up with this on my own, though I think a similar defender like ability has been posted before, I just can't remember where.

At any rate, I think you are right about the health being low. I'll bump the unupped version's HP a bit. I figured that since it has a light ability most players would pop a blessing on it. But a bit of extra hp would still be good I think.

About how much HP seems reasonable? 6? 8?

I think the upgraded one is OP.

I'm gonna compare it to owl eye.  Owl Eye is a weapon so you only get one copy (normall) and it costs 2 quanta to deal 3 damage per turn. Weapons are generally stronger than similar creatures due to being rare.

However, the upgraded card deals 2 or easily 3 damage per turn for one quanta.  You can easily run 6 of them.  I think it's better creature control than anything currently in the game to be honest.  Start running some flying weapons and it shines even more.

I think if you kept the atk/health at 1/4 like the unupgraded version it would be a little more balanced.  Maybe give it a +2/+0 bonus if under a cloak if you have space/desire.  For more fun give the unupgraded version a +0/+2 buff if you have a sanctuary.

I did indeed have Owl's Eye's stats in mind when I made this.
Consider that owl's eye can be flown to give you a 5|7 creature. This creature, on the other hand, has only 2 Hp so it is very vulnerable to CC itself.
Furthermore, consider that if you have multiple owl's eyes, you can shoot the same target multiple times in a single round.
This card cannot accomplish that because of the need to move it to the appropriate field slot. The only way to hit a target more than once in a turn with these would be to sacrifice them as you do so.

Lastly, Owl's Eye's ability costs the same type of quanta as is needed to cast it. This card's ability forces a duo.

That said, I do see your point that with enough flying weapons in play, this card could indeed be a very heavy CC compared to Owl's Eye.
This is intentional since the whole point of this mini-series is to enhance the utility and availability of flying weapons.

If needed I can drop the damage and / or HP of the upped version. I could also raise cast cost if really needed (I can't fit more than 1 :darkness in the card text so ability cost has to stay as is)

I do want to keep the overall mechanic as it is, however.

I didn't consider that you couldn't hit the same target more than once.  That does help a bit.

Also I didn't consider you couldn't target a creature in a slot opposite of a creature you control without killing your own creature.

On second thought I take back my objections.

I'm just using * as a pneumonic to bring player's attention to the fact that the card's stats behave a little differently from others.
Namely, in both cases they are somehow changing based on the number of weapons in play.
I.e. for the defender, it's HP will be healed over time, for the assassin, its attack will increase or decrease based on number of weapons in play.

This is a passive trait, very much like swarm.

If needed I can come up with a name for it (I'm open to suggestions, but it needs to be short as space is limited).
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?

Well, my understanding of the unupped at the first read told me it healed the owner according to the weapon.

What if you just added "This card" instead of "*"?

Sounds good to me.

Updated the card.
-Unupped now has 6 hp, up from 4.
-Upped version has a starting attack of 1, down from 2.
-Removed the "*" notation in favor of DrakeXIV's idea (Thanks for the suggestion DrakeXIV!)

You could probably remove 'any' from your text and just have it, 'strike opposing creature'.  Then you could actually fit a period in there.
