NOTES:
This card essentially doubles the use of Thunderstorm, Shockwave, or Flying Weapon.  When an Air Spell is played the Squall Line in the lowest Permanent position (first played) gains an ability with the same name, effect and cost of that spell which can immediately be used, quanta and summoning sickness permitting.  After the ability is used Squall Line reverts back to its original state.  It can and will pick up Air Spells used by the opponent if it does not currently have a spell 'loaded'.

An example:  On your first turn you play in order 2 Squall Lines, a Thunderstorm, and a Shockwave.  The first Squall Line gains the Thunderstorm ability and the second Squall Line gains the Shockwave ability.  Because you just played the permanents you won't be able to use their ability until next turn.
CHANGES:
12/3/10: Changed so the ability lasts through 1 use instead of 1 turn.

I like it, because quite frankly, CC never seems good enough in this game, except against my deck :P

It sounds balanced and looks interesting.
I feel that the HP of creatures is almost irrelevant because of the lack of efficient CC.  Many complain that Gravity creatures, for example, suffer because they have higher costs due to their higher HP, which has little utility in the current metagame.  The most effective CC IMO does not damage the creatures, but nullifies them through rewind, AM, or lobotomize.

So my intention is not spell duplication but increased CC efficiency and I felt it awkward to make a card working only with spells that target creatures.  So I limited it by element instead.  Fire and Air have the most damage-based spells and of course, Fire Bolt and Firestorm would be considerably OP with this effect.  Flying weapon just happened to get the advantage, too, and I don't think that would be OP because flying weapon decks rely on a combo that can be prone to bad draws and is vulnerable to rewinds and the like.


Reviewing the card, I think having the ability disappear after a turn is UP and will change the wording so that it says 1 use instead of 1 turn.

I know that Air has control cards, but it lacks a theme. Zanz said that Air is about the freedom of movements, but I see no Air card that exemplifies that.
Current cards exemplifying this 'freedom of movement': Flying Weapon moves permanents to the creature position, Wings makes the elemental 'airborne'.  This card would move Spells to the Permanent board (albeit not so permanently).


Before updating the card image, I'm wondering should this pick up the Air spells used by the opponent?

Ah. Now I see it. Thanks. The movement of one type (Spells) to another type (Permanent) makes perfect sense.
So now Creature to Spell, Creature to Perm, Perm to Spell and Spell to Creature are needed to complete the set.

Yes I think it should pick up the opponents air spells.

Hm...

This is surprisingly balanced for a card that increases the usage of damaging CC (Shockwave mostly, Thunderstorm is looked over often). I enjoy it, even though the Animate Weapon concept in a Storm front doesn't make quite as much sense... it would make Flying Weapon decks much more resistant to Rewinds (ignoring Eternity), but then again, with Eagle's Eye as a fairly reusable form of 3-damage CC, this does feel a bit redundant in some ways, but innovative in others.

If more non-CC Air spell cards are introduced, this would have several places in any deck that uses :air. :)
