Counter the next attack or skill from a target slot, this card is then delayed 1 turn.

ART:
OdinVanguard
IDEA:
OdinVanguard
NOTES:
The idea is a device which activates defensively to stop time in a specified location when an event takes place there.
Mechanics:
The player targets a field slot (permanent or creature).
The next time any card in that slot uses an ability or makes an attack, the effect is prevented (e.g. the ability fizzles or the attack is blocked).
The bauble then gets delayed 1 turn.

If a shield is targeted, this ability stops the first instance of activation. E.g. if a dim shield were targeted, it would let the first creature through, but the rest would be stopped.
If a fog shield were targeted, the first creature that would miss is let through, then the rest would have the normal miss chance.

If a weapon or creature attack from a card with multiple attacks is affected, the first attack is negated but the rest are let through.

in the case of sundial or SoP, the first creature up for an attack gets to attack as usual but the rest get prevented as normal.

This effect targets a slot rather than a card directly and acts upon a skill or damage originating from therein. The card itself is not directly acted upon. Therefore it can block attacks or abilities from untargetable cards.

The slot targeting mechanism also means that a slot can be targeted even when nothing is there yet. Thus, if you target the next slot that would be summoned to, it will block the attack of any creature summoned there.

Using the bauble a second time before the first use activates simply re-aims the ability to a new slot.

Multiple baubles may target the same slot, causing multiple attacks or ability uses to be denied.
E.g. you could let up to 6 creatures bypass a shield by hitting it with six bauble. Each bauble would activate in turn to prevent subsequent shield effects as the first six creatures attack.

You could even shield bauble a shield baubleā€¦ in that case the bauble getting baubles would simply fail to function (would not stop its target from taking effect and would not get delayed).

Very interesting...would the opponent KNOW which slot you targeted (will it be highlighted in any way?), or will he/she be unaware?

Good point... I'm not sure which way it should be. It would certainly be a lot more powerful if they don't know.
I'm leaning toward yes (they get a halo on the field slot) right now though since it shouldn't be too powerful given the low cost of the card and skill.
If people think it should be no so the card can be more useful I have no problem with that.

Making the opponent be able to see the card would make it's usage a little more counterable ( No pun intended) . I don't know what to say about the player seeing it.
nice

Cool. Hope others like it too. Just submitted to crucible. It should be in there in a week or two. (there are a few entries ahead of it still)

i don't think your opponent should get to know which slot you used it on. They should know that you used it. *Guardian, not Gaurdian. Nice card!

I don't think there's a choice, as your opponent could see you use quanta and could see one of their creatures not attack (and well, the fact that you have this permanent out at all is probably enough evidence  ::)).

Well, you are right, once the effect triggers on the creature's attack they will know and its a moot point... but I think what they were getting at is whether or not your opponent gets to see what slot got targeted BEFORE their creature attacks (or trys to use a skill).

For instance, suppose you have several growth type creatures out, but only enough quanta to power one of them. If you know which slot is targeted, you simply use the growth ability for the one in that slot. It won't get +2|+2, but it will still get its attack. On the other hand, if you can't see what slot is targeted you just have to guess and hope you pick the right one.

CURATOR COMMENT

This card will not be permitted into the Crucible due to one or more of the following errors:

  • Table filled out incorrectly.

Correct these errors as soon as possible and feel free to submit again when ready.

Thank you. ^_^

If the card costs random quanta then this must be expressed without quanta symbol, not the :rainbow symbol.
Beware the Darkness.
