There's an error in the bottom of your notes section: material creatures will become IMmaterial, not material.
So, 6 of these and you've got yourself an immortal army. I think it's OP for both. But if  you had just the make immaterial material part, that might work
Yeah, I've decided that having it switch mortality status might give it too much competition with Anubis and Turquoise Nymph.

Card Changed:
Cost lowered by 1.
Ability now only removes immaterial.

how can you remove something from a creature that can't be targeted in the first place?
the only way i can think of to achieve this is through a shield that removes not only immaterial, also poison and other status affects.

I also use this concept with Erosion | Rust (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,20710.0.html), which deals with immaterial permanents.

My thoughts is that both cards would have some kind of coding that allows them to ignore immaterial status and treat it just as a another variable or something on the creature.

A quick pseudo-code example:

Immaterial = 1
{
  Object Targeting appears.
      If
     Object Targeting is clicked:
     {
       Immaterial = 0
     }
}
or
Immaterial = 0
{
Nothing happens.
}
(This is just an example - I'm not sure if that's how the game works but from what I've seen it should be possible.)

Is there really no other way to get around this? Technically Immaterial is a status effect/ability similar to Momentum as shown by Immortal and Phase Dragon.

That kills the thematicness - how does materialism deal with removal of a status effect?

This was already answered.
Because there is no counter to untargetable targets except for Fire Shield and Thorn Carparace.  A quinted growth creature can usually nullify the effects of such a shield well enough to bypass it entirely.
Thorn Carapace trumps growth easily.
So the goal is to added counters to untargetable targets, why do so by targeting them?
1) I used an idea from another user and wanted to preserve the mechanic.
2) Mass disabling would be pretty strong and a too hard counter.
3) It is meant to thematically fit with the card's name.

I'm probably going to just rework the whole "Creature Shard" concept at this rate. I may use the field removal of removing immaterial later, but previous attempts at that have seemed to not do too well.
