Aside from that, I would say make it a Death creature, just to keep the boundary line distinct. After all, a Zombie is unDEAD, so what does it have to do with Darkness anyway?

Well, without the  element, this card will probably in the  side. Also, I do think that undeads portray a theme of fear, in which it relates to  .

So you're saying something that went through DEATH is now Darkness? Hmmm... no. You're going too far into this. A Zombie is a decomposing pile of flesh that used to be alive, but is considered dead in all vital signs aside from the brain. Fear which is commonly associated with darkness, can often be overcome by a mere shotgun to the head. You are adding details that support your argument, but they are vague attempts to leave this creature as Darkness. In all aspects, this creature supports the death element more than any other death creature except Skeleton which is created by direct death.

However Ghouls like vampires can have more of a darkness feel. There even are myths of Ghouls that call them fiends instead of undead.

However if this is switched to mono death then it would not be as similar to Parasite and would need a cost increase of 1

I agree that zombie is in the section. But WITHOUT , I would say it fits in the side.

That's like saying without randomness, an Abomination could be in Life. You're taking away the main theme to support your argument.
