IDEA:
Helston
NOTES:
Reduces damage taken from all non-momentum sources by the player. Every third turn, the shield's in the wrong part of its orbit to block any damage, and lets all damage through in full. If a replacement shield is played over the old one, the orbit restarts and you have two more turns before taking full damage again.

Averages out to reducing damage by 33% if it isn't chained. Reduces spell damage to soft counter Bolt spells, as well as help create a difference between Momentum and SoW/Psion.

very nice i love it....
seems a little cheap in cost, but it is a shield not like it stacks

Interesting shield...I like it, it promises to be more useful than the generally scorned Gravity shield, but still has it's weakpoints.
Curious how Gravity's shields seems better suited for dealing with a few, powerful creatures instead of a bunch of little ones though.

The simple 'orbit' mechanic you've put here really helps turn the card from a boring average DR-shield to something that is interesting to play and thematically fits Gravity very well.

How would this image by EmeraldTiger (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17991.msg399692.html#msg399692) work for art?

This is pretty cool! I agree with what Z said. I also see an interesting thematic relation to Gravity Shield. It keeps things down, while this one is moving. They're counterparts :)

Which Z? We both have Z in our names :P

Zblader, as he's the one whose name is typically shortened to Z.

Something I just thought of-what if the shield alternated between physical and spell damage?
The idea being to expand on spell damage as a mechanic and interactions.
Of course, this idea could be used elsewhere, like for  :aether...

I think I prefer this one from the same thread - actually gets a planet in there:

Tried putting it somewhere between where Fog Shield (with an arguably more balanced 3|2 cost instead of 2|1), and phase shield's 6|5. Chaining becomes quite expensive for the benefit you gain.

Any ideas what should happen with odd attacks? Round up, round down, or randomly pick?

Posting to keep track.

Interesting concept. I like the cyclical theme. It will encourage created strategies to deal with the timing.

CURATOR COMMENT

This card will not be permitted into the Crucible due to one or more of the following errors:

Correct these errors as soon as possible and feel free to submit again when ready.

Thank you. ^_^

Please make sure the 'Type' section only includes Permanent, Spell, or Creature - nothing else.

hmm. 50% is a lot.

needs testing.

hmm. 50% is a lot.

needs testing.

It averages out to 33% over three turns, and 50% is what Dusk lets through anyway. Unless you start chaining them every second turn, in which case it is 50% at the same quanta cost per turn as chaining Dims.

But it probably still needs testing.

But it probably still needs testing.
It still needs testing to see if the lower cost and protection against both attacks and spells is sufficient to make up for the weaker miss chance.

Like it a lot. As mentioned it might need some testing, but my feeling says it's pretty balanced. The art is kinda.... strange. Not in a bad way. Just unusual. ^^

Kinda weird that it reduces spell damage, because spell damage is basically slightly weaker momentum that can be reflected. Though I suppose as long as momentum goes through it, it's fine. Interesting idea, I support it.

Important question: how can I go about testing this? I'd like to put some time into this card idea if I can to see how far it goes.

Dusk Mantle: 6 :darkness 50% blocked
Fog Shield: 2 :air 40% blocked
Orbital Shield: 4 :gravity 33% blocked

By logic, your shield should cost around negative two. I think fog shield needs a nerf.
