I like this card very much. The title and mechanic fit together very well. On the note of balancing the 'invulnerable for 2 turns' aspect, I don't believe that that mechanic should be changed. While it may toss some methods and decks for a loop, it's what really makes this card interesting. Fractal might be an issue, but we've got to remember too that this card costs 5 :water. Balancing-wise, I would suggest just on the upgraded version lowering the cost to 4 :water and lowering the attack by 1 because 1 ship packs a max of 12 damage with the upgraded one, in contrast with 8 from the unupped one. Over time or over fractals, the difference of 1 attack may be over-powered. Once again, though, excellent idea. I really like when brand-new mechanics are introduced to the game. One aspect of this card that I like is that it softly and subtly counters the fire shield extremely well. Though in the game there are currently no cards which give a boosted counter to the opposing element (other than light vs. death and darkness), I believe that it is nice and thematically good when a card has a soft counter to an aspect of the opposing element, such as this card's countering of the fire shield's ability, which would normally kill this creature within 2 turns if it didn't have its ability. Once again, I want to say: fantastic idea!

Thanks for the nice review. :) This card indeed counters fire's theme, the damaging and destruction packed up in the form of firebolts, firestorms, rage potions and fire shield. You may be right that 6 attack for the upgraded one seems high if we summon more of this over time. What I don't understand is why you said that 1 ship packs a max of 12 damage with the upgraded one, while it requires 2 ships for that much attack, although I understood what you meant to say with this. I'm considering lowering the attack power of the upgraded card to 5.
And we keep driving into the night

Lowering the attack power of the upgraded one to 5 would make a pretty big difference. I just feel that 6 attack is a bit much.

So I'm curious: since the mechanic behind the ship is that it can be targeted but doesn't take damage, does that mean you can Rage Elixir your own ship for +6 attack and no damage? Fun times  :)

I like the idea of the "takes no damage" ability and think the card itself is reasonably balanced, since it's still vulnerable to a host of CC abilities: antimatter, rewind, freeze, possibly devour? Just to be on the safe side I think the ghostship ability should be an active (lobo-able) ability, to cement the idea that it's a counter to creature damage but not other CC (granted, lobo by itself wouldn't do anything anyhow unless you also had a way to damage.)

I updated the upgraded card's attack power to 5. Other minor changes:
  • ghostship ability can now be lobotomized
  • while Mary Celeste is invulnerable, it can be targeted with Rage Potion

It is a good question if it can be devoured or not. ^^"

I don't think targeting was ever really the issue, you can target any creature with any spell that targets. The spell would still occur, but simply no damage would be done.

I didn't expect to see a combo That powerful to exist with this card, but now I put it on my list. I hate doing this, but I counted all the possible counters for GP-d Mary Celeste and compared it to dimshield. There were more counters to MC+GP than dimshield, but I have to take into account that the counters of dimshield are more frequent, and also dimshield doesn't do any damage to the opponent. To -kind of- soften the situation, dimshield grants 1 more turn of peace (if not harmed, but this also goes for my card), and also exists out of 1 less type of quanta than the MC+GP combo.

Dimshield counters: BE, chargers, momentum, Titan, SoF, deflagration, pulverizer, steal (questioned: poison, chrysaora, chimera).
Quanta Pool: :entropy :gravity :fire :darkness :earth(only with :gravity) (:death :water(only with :death))

GP + Mary Celeste counters: (chaos seed's and pandemonium's lobotomize, rewind and PU? feature), mutation, fallen elf, chargers, momentum, gravity pull, mind flayer, reverse time, eternity, acceleration, liquid shadow, lobotomizer (questioned: maxwell's demon, skull shield, otyugh, chimera, black nymph, PU).
Quanta Pool: :entropy :gravity :time :darkness :aether :water(only with :aether) (:death)

Having said these, I'm considering some of these changes, in order:
  • Maxwell's Demon and Otyugh should be able to 'sink' Mary Celeste since they don't do any damage
  • Skull shield should also be able to trigger death effects(and also death) on Mary Celeste since it doesn't kill creatures. They just die... And turn into skeletons
  • The best, but also the most unexecutable thing would be if the card should be made immune to either status effects and/or buffs but not immune for targeting
  • If things go really wrong, I'll just make the ghostship ability equal to divine shield(seraph). The only thing in this option that would disappoint me the most, that Mary Celeste wouldn't get a unique defense, and the 2 Shields would still damage her

Edit: What is not listed on the list is that I can change attack and cost anytime, after or before any point of the list.

Poison should add a counter but not damage until 2 turns are up.

Rage potion should give +5|+0. It's not OP, just look at SoW.

The Community hath spoken!

According to the poll, 6 out of 10 7 out of 11 people like the card this way, so I'm now trying to get Mary Celeste to the Crucible. :) The 11th 12th vote was mine on lowering only the upgraded card's attack, and I already changed that.

Edit: too bad that I need 2 working ideas to get into the Crucible. :( Until then, the voting is open again.
