NOTES:
So basically this is supposed to be a versatile addition to life's arsenal. both to remove annoying permanents and (in the upgraded form) to gain valuable attackers. The creatures created look like relics, but they keep a slimmed down version of their original skills. There is no way to return the permanents back to being permanents once they have been made creatures.

skill by permanent breakdown:

Pillars/Towers: generate 1 quanta per turn matching there element. (similar to a RoL)
Weapons: Keep skills (similar to animate weapon) however stats are 4|4.
Phase shield: immaterial, disappears after turns are done.
Mindgate:  :aether :aether mindgate : acquire target creatures skill
Fog shield: :air  :air Inversion: Makes a target permanent invisible till next round
Wings:  :air Dive
Unstable Gas: Volatile: deals 10 damage to both players when killed.
Dusk Mantle:  :darkness :darkness cloak: cloaks adjacent creatures
Nightfall: adjacent darkness or death creatures gain +1|+1
Cloak: adjacent creatures are cloaked (dissapears after turns are done)
Skull Shield: chance to trigger death effects with each successful attack
Boneyard: becomes a random creature when targeted with reverse time
Bonewall: becomes a random creature when targeted with reverse time
Soul catcher: Scavenger
Catapult:  :gravity :gravity Siege Machine: sacrifice a creature to destroy a random enemy permanent.
Titanium shield:  :earth :earth :earth Guard
Dissipation shield: Dissipate: Opponent loses 3 random quanta each turn.
Fire Shield: Retribution: Deal 1 damage to any creature that targets it directly.
Gravity shield:  :gravity Gravity Pull
Thorn carapace: venom
Empathic bond: regenerate
Solar shield: light (like a RoL)
Sanctuary:  :light heal
Procrastination:  :time Stall: stall target creature for a turn
Golden Hourglass:  :time Hasten: target creature moves forward in time 1 turn.

casting fractal will fill your hand with relics. casting nighmare the same. This relic card cannot be the target of mitosis similar to the way animated weapons cannot be.

This is way too powerful with some permanents (such as SoG) and Fractal, especially given Shards can stack.

If it weren't for the problems with Fractal, it'd be a fine idea.

ha. i completely hadnt thought about fractal. (curse you fractal! the card designers bane)

any thoughts on how to fix that problem? my first reactions is that one fix might be to make reverse time or fractal or nightmare produce relics instead of the original card. this card is meant to alter the cards so that they can no longer return to being permanents. so anything that makes them a permanent should produce a relic instead.

perhaps make actual standalone cards that only exist from this effect?  like how malignant cells exist only from an aflatoxin?

and I feel this needs a better name.  Otherwise there could be confusion when talking about it or about the actual element.

That might work if the cards targeted by Life caused them to turn into Relics on the field as well with different stats and abilities, in a similar way that Mutation causes a variance among normal creatures.  But otherwise that might be too much of a hidden effect of the card.

Yah. I thought about that solution. my problem with it is that im not sure what I would price the stand alone cards. in case of things like fractal. maybe 5 quanta of the original element?

would I do that for all permanents? (shields and pillars included? even though they have different attack and skills?)

as far as the name, I considered "breath of life" but that sounded too much like an air card. any suggestions?

Oh I see what you mean: making a "relic" creature with a skill attached. that might be an intermediate fix.

This is either OP or UP. When considdering fractal it becomes OP. When the fractal would turn into relics or in five costers, it would be UP. Why would anyone want to make a pillar into a 2/2 for 3 or a shield into a 3/3?
This seems very UP. Also by making it creatures, all you do is suicide! I mean, as a permanent, they are relatively safe but as a creature their just bad. Any form of cc will kill it!

BUT, the upped version is OP anyway because it is the best steal i've ever seen! And OMG,  :life has PC!

the idea is that you can alter your strategy to use this card to good effect. i think it depends on whether you are using it to target your opponents cards or your own cards. for opponent: you are taking their cards out of the saftey as permanents, lobotomizing it, and making it a weakish creature instead. for your own: you can turn permanents that might not be as useful in the match into a creature instead for attack. or shields into a faster form of creature control with guard.

I dont think balancing is that difficult. its just a matter of adjusting stats and what skills are kept or added.

Perhaps it would be good to give shield a different att / hp like flying weapons. It would also be cool if they retained their damage reduction and / or ability somehow. I.e. lightning bolt would only deal 2 damage to an animated diamond shield. Thorns shield should cause poisoning on ingestion. Phase shield becomes immaterial. Etc.
Giving life PC in general will definitely have a big impact since that is one of its shortcomings right now. The upgraded version should probably be a good deal more expensive though, or dark users will start screaming about balance vs steal.
Lastly, I agree that fractal might make this a little OP unless it churns out something innocuous instead of the original permanent. Consider what would happen, for instance, with SoL -> Ubber life stall.
Overall though this looks like a cool idea.
Has potential to make some fun air / life rainbow decks (sword and shield anyone... could be a fun tournament).
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
