*Uses on Vulture*

Anyway, that isn't exactly what the term "diminishing returns" means...  "diminishing returns" usually means that, every time an action is completed, the output is decreased.  For instance, if there was a creature that healed you for 10-x every time a creature dies with X equal to the number of times that you have been healed, then it would be an example of diminishing returns.
Here's something that I found that might work for a theme: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudade

I like this mechanic, but I'd probably name it something like "Grief" or "Sorrow," and make it  :light or  :life, the Elements of empathy.

My default opinion of a new card is OP. Your job as a card creator will have to be to convince me otherwise.

It's not just a creature control card; it seems like it would be used as a :death version of Antimatter, basically.

If you were to use it like this, though - use on strong enemy creatures, then activate death effects until you have a negative enemy creature healing you - the -1/-1 needs to be replaced with -1/0 or -1/+1.

I would prefer if this was more like 4 | 3 or perhaps 5 | 4 cost.

Yeah... it has a great concept, but the problem is that, either way, you're spending multiple cards and lots of quanta just to reduce the stats of a creature.  You can spend 6 :death, 10 :aether, and three cards total to deal lots of damage to one creature... or you can use Freeze / Shockwave for 1 :water, 4 :air, and 2 cards to kill it instantly.  Even if you manage to get the creature to have a negative ATK, it will die sooner or later.

I went high on cost mostly to see what  people thought of the mechanic.  is balance about 3 :death |2 :death?

IMO, cost isn't the problem.

It does fit the decay theme of :death. to give a +n for hp does not fit imo. Another thought but it might be too much like poison, is to increase the -1|-1 when a creature dies.

Example:
1 DE* C+ gains -1|-1
2 DE C gains -2|-2
3 DE C gains -3|-3

* Death Effect
+ Creature

It is primarily damage reduction followed by CC. It will rarely be Healing.
