Surely you've heard of chaos systems? As particles move further apart, the chaos (entropy) in the system increases.
A is B is not the same as B is A.  Entropy is seen there, yes, but entropy is more broadly about energy availability in a system, and that isn't the only example of it.

Plus, entropy relates to thermodynamics and energy; particles move further apart as they gain energy.
On a microscopic level, yes.  For the broader picture, things merely become uniform - in a state of equilibrium.  Gravity plays a major part here too, by the way.

But I was trying to steer this away from talk about the theme, which can obviously go both ways.  What about the balance and combo potential in either element?

Alright.

In :gravity you can use this on an Armagio for an instant 15 Rays of Light. You can then cast a Hope shield on the next turn.

In :entropy you could cast it on, say, an Abomination for 2 Photons/Rays of Light, which you can then Mutate.

Obviously Gravity has stronger combos; is this a good thing or a bad thing?

15 Rays of Light from 9 :gravity is more potent than Fractal, so yes, it's a problem.  :)

That's why I suggested moving the effect to the creature's attack earlier - attack does not have such an outlier as HP has in Gravity.  If it stays Gravity, I think it should draw its power from creature attack instead.

I would keep it based on HP because it give more interest to the unupped form of this card. If you base it on the attack you convert 1 creature with X atk = X - DR damage into X creature with 1 atk = X(1 - DR) damage. You lower the damage and the fragility to massCC but as an advantage you only receive a mere synergy with empathic bond and a higher resistence to singleCC. If you don't plan to do it on RoL (with Hope) this has basically no use.

To avoid to have a too easy access to high HP creatures the easiest way IMO is to make this an entropy card.

The problem I have is that its main use is in a RoL/Hope-based strategy. To me, this card is just a specialized fractal (effect varies based on the variable creature HP and can only imitate Fractal'd photons/RoLs) that costs 2 cards instead of 1.

I still stand by merely NOT letting the upgraded card generate RoL and then leaving it gravity and health based. You add the cost of putting Luciferan into your deck which balances the card nicely, in my opinion.

23 is the max to fill the field.

I have been convinced that the balance is better as an Entropy card. If the poll results in Gravity's favor I will change it back.

Is it odd that this could fit in opposite elements?

Nope  ;D
My understanding from Zanz's comments is that  :entropy :gravity relationship orients around the therodynamic concepts of Entropy and Order. Entropy and Order behave counter intuitively sometimes. Did you know that lipids are more entropic as a cell memebrane than as a watery soup?
